September Update

During outdoor learning, we have been working on our mapping skills. We’ve applied this to team challenges where we had to locate items around the school grounds. Also, we’ve been working with the loose parts. We worked together in teams and applied our creativity.

Throughout our RME topic, we have been learning about the Jewish festival Purim. We’ve been learning about the ‘Story of Esther’ and created our own rattles to re-tell the story, drowning out the name of the bad characters.

We’ve also enjoyed working with friends during STEM challenges. We loved making our own mini golf course and had great fun trying out all the different creations.

During PE lessons, we have been focussing on hockey. We have been working hard to progress our skills in passing, dribbling and shooting. We’ve enjoyed applying these skills in team games.

We have been taking part in team challenges using K’Nex. We were challenged to design and build a bridge to cross tables and the bridge also had to be strong enough to hold the weight of a dictionary! We had to work together to come up with our designs and then assess if our bridges were fit for purpose.

During Scottish Book Week, we took a trip to Dreghorn Library. The librarians set up a fantastic WW2 interactive display as well as a WW2 quiz! We enjoyed exploring the real-life items from WW2 such as gas masks, rationing books and games.

Throughout P7, we are developing our listening and talking skills. We have been enjoying playing lots of different games to work on our skills, ‘Heads Up’ is a favourite!

As well as this, we’ve been learning some Scots verse and reciting “My Heart’s in the Highlands” by Robert Burns.

During maths, we’ve been learning about perimeter and area. We headed outside to apply our new knowledge in an area/perimeter challenge.

February Update

We were very fortunate to have staff in visiting us from Heart Start Ayrshire. Our class learned very important skills to help people if they became unwell, including CPR and choking.

As part of our preparations for our Burns Supper, we made some delicious shortbread biscuits! Groups worked together to follow a recipe and concentrated on weighing and measuring their ingredients.

At the Burns Supper, all of the P7’s did a fantastic job of entertaining the P6’s with poetry recitals, ceilidh dancing and toasts. P7 worked incredibly hard to prepare for the event and and it was a huge success!
