P6.5 Curriculum Outline 2023-2024 Term 1

September 2023

In P6/5 we have been learning about Space.  We drew around our partner’s shadow, then checked every 10 minutes to draw another shadow on the same spot.  We were able to investigate the movement of the Earth by comparing the shadows.

In numeracy, we have been recalling our multiplication facts.  We like playing multiplication games on the iPads to practice.

On Friday, we enjoyed the Open Afternoon.  We took part in 4 different activities to showcase our skills for our Natural Disasters topic.  We used ICT to research and create a poster, oil pastel techniques to create a natural disaster image, described disasters using adjectives and ‘wow’ words and took part in a tricky STEM challenge involving spaghetti and marshmallows!

October 2023

We enjoyed learning about nature during Autumn.  We collected natural materials, including Autumn leaves and other seeds/weeds that we see during Autumn time to create character faces.  We then used these faces to create a description text.

We had lots of fun celebrating Hallowe’en!  We took part in different activities such as spooky acrostic poems, Hallowe’en code breakers, creepy colouring, dooking for apples and making our own crispy cake treats.  It was a fantastic afternoon!

November 2023

P6/5 have enjoyed practising a variety of jumping, balancing and rolling skills in gymnastics.  We loved using the equipment to show off our skills!

We also took part in Odd Socks Day for Anti-Bullying Week.  We designed some of our own socks after discussing that everyone is different.  In Health and Wellbeing, we investigated anti-bullying and how it can affect your own mental/emotional wellbeing.

December 2023

We learned the Grand Ol’ Duke of York and Canadian Barn Dance when learning about Social Dancing.  We enjoyed performing these at our Christmas party!

We had a fantastic lesson with Miss Ros on how to use spheros.  We were able to adapt the movements of the sphero to create different shapes, as well as have them change colour, show images and even play sounds.

We learned about Christmas traditions in France during French lessons.  We created our own fact files using Microsoft Publisher.
