Welcome to Faculty of Languages and Literacy

A clear understanding of language is the foundation of everything you do in school – and in life. From identifying fake news and media bias to be able to write a letter of complaint, competency in reading, writing, listening and talking is vital.
The Inverclyde Academy Faculty of Languages and Literacy Department work with our young people to develop these skills from the first day in the BGE. Our focus upon reading for understanding, analysis and evaluation, combined with creative approaches to learning and teaching ensure that our pupils build these skills while gaining an appreciation for all forms of texts; novels, short stories, non-fiction, poems, films and news articles.
With this strong foundation and an understanding of the critical terminology for language, our young people progress from the BGE to the Senior Phase so that they may tackle their SQA qualifications with confidence.
