Numeracy
Numeracy is a skill which permeates and supports all areas of learning, allowing young people access to the wider curriculum and develop key skills for life and work. In our everyday lives we will regularly be required to estimate, use number processes, work with fractions and percentages, manage money and time, make measurements and read information from charts and tables.
Being numerate helps us to function responsibly in everyday life and contribute effectively to society. It increases our opportunities within the world of work and establishes foundations which can be built upon through lifelong learning.
What will my children learn?
Each area of the curriculum is broken down into experiences and outcomes. These are clear and concise statements about children’s learning and progression from pre-school to S3. This stage of your child’s education is known as the broad general education (BGE).
You can download and read theĀ experiences and outcomes for numeracy and mathematics.
You can also access the National Numeracy and Mathematics Progression Framework. This resource has been created to deepen knowledge and understanding of progression within the experiences and outcomes for numeracy and mathematics.
The National Numeracy and Mathematics Progression Framework aims to support planning by identifying key milestones that learners should know before moving on to the next stage of learning.
How can I support my child’s learning?
Supporting numeracy at home provides simple ideas to build numeracy skills into everyday activities with your child.
