Developing the Young Workforce

Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) is the Scottish Government’s Youth Employment strategy to better prepare young people for the world of work.

Skills for Life, Learning and Work

All pupils are entitled to a broad general education until the end of S3. Gourock Primary School, pupils are encouraged to identify the skills for learning, life and work which they are developing and will be supported in communicating these in a range of ways.

Career Education

We endeavour to plan for opportunities to ensure pupils learn about a range of careers as they progress through primary school. They will also will begin to learn about the skills and qualities required for different jobs. If you have a skill/career that you’d like to share with our pupils then we would be delighted to hear from you.

Skills Development Scotland (SDS) has developed a programme of support for youngsters as they proceed through school. SDS has created My World of Work, a useful careers resource for pupils and parents especially at P6 & 7.

Employer Engagement

At Gourock Primary we try to build positive relationships with a range of community partners to help our pupils gain the skills, qualities and needed to prepare them for the world of work. Successful World of Work events have helped highlight employer skills and possible careers.

A focus on STEM, Digital Learning and Making Maths Count sits at the heart of DYW. These aspects are a key focus for school improvement at Gourock Primary.
