Parent Council

The Parent Council meets regularly within the school. It is the representative body of the Parent Forum. Every parent or carer of a child in Ardgowan Primary School is automatically a member of the Parent Forum. All parents and carers are encouraged to attend Parent Council meetings. Dates of meetings can be found on the ‘Events’ page or in our ‘Ardgowan Matters’ newsletter.

Message from Lyn McEleny, Chair of the Parent Council
My name is Lyn McEleny I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you a wee bit about the parent council in Ardgowan and also to ask for your help and support. Most schools have a parent council, they go by different names but generally with the same idea of helping to raise funds for the school and be the voice of the parents to help guide the school in what we think is important and provide feedback
on key areas.

The parent council meets around every 6 weeks or so for a couple of hours on a Wednesday night, we go through some plans for upcoming events and discuss new ways to raise funds and how to best spend the money we have raised. We also get feedback direct from Mrs Picken on the key priorities and updates from the school and are often asked for our inputs.

It is very informal and we try and have as much fun as we can doing it, there is no pressure to come to every meeting either, you can pop along once a year if that is what you can manage, regardless we welcome everyone and value your time. We are all there to try and help our kids have the best experience at school and to support the teachers and management team, but at the same time challenging the status quo when needed. Just to be clear this is not used to discuss direct issues or grievances these are always best raised direct with the staff, we provide general feedback and guidance from the parent’s perspective.
