Some fabulous and amazing sketching…
What an excellent first week we’ve all had in P6/7.
Today we begun developing our line drawing technique using chalk, pencil and pen. We had to use our observation skills to really study our umbrella to see where all the lines met. This was pretty tricky, but we did a fabulous job. Here is the beginning of our fantastic gallery.
REMINDER:
Bring back your signed information slip letter and plastic folder for Monday.
Have a brilliant weekend!

Our Topic…
To start off the year we are combining the work we have done in citizenship and ECO to investigate the topic of ‘Weather and Climate Change’.
Today we did our topic plan as a class, deciding the areas and questions we want to investigate, as well as the skills that we aim to develop.
Our aim is to:
Produce a weather report using factual information and present to a group/ the class.
We have separated our topic into three main themes:
Local Weather: On Our Doorstep (OOD)
What causes Inverness weather to change so quickly?
National Weather: Great British Weather (GBW)
Why is the weather different all across Great Britain?
Global Weather: World Wide Weather (WWW)
How does the weather have an impact on climate change?
The skills we are going to focus on developing are:
- Research
- Critical Reading
- Critical Writing
- Measuring and Testing
- Reading Scales
- Note-Taking
- Presenting information
Social Skills
- Listening
- Co-operation
- Presenting as a group
- Agreeing to disagree
- Sharing ideas
- Reaching group consensus
- Talking aloud
If Mum, Dad or anyone at home has any fabulous ideas for ‘Weather and Climate Change’, or any expertise which you would feel useful, please pop into see us, or drop a note in.

Young Writers
Last session, our P6/7 pupils entered the ‘Mini Saga’ writing competition in which they had to write a story in only 50 words. We are delighted to see that 59 of our P6/7 pupils from last session have been chosen to be published.
All children who are to be published should have received a letter. The book will be published in September. The school will receive a copy for the class library.

REMEMBER:
Your PE KIT for tomorrow
We had our first assessment for Maths today, and it was quite tricky. It was really useful to show us what we have remembered from last year, and what we need to learn next in number work.
We also decided on what our P6/7 Agreements and Responsibilities should be within the classroom and the school. We will add these to the blog tomorrow along with our House Captains, JRSO, Pupil Council, Rising Star and ECO representatives.

One more sleep…
One more sleep until you all get to come back and join the madness and fun of P6/7. W were very busy today sorting out MOUNTAINS of boxes and trays that were in the Learning Cabin, in an attempt to organize 3 brand new rooms. Here’s a photograph of what one corner looked like this morning…
We’ll let you see the finished result tomorrow- without revealing a photograph tonight.
Remember: Your PE kit. Mrs Campbell is in!
See you at 8.50am tomorrow morning-

Building Update 09.08.2012
Everyone on site is working extremely hard to ensure that the building works are completed for the return of all pupils on Tuesday 14th August. Fingers crossed everything runs smoothly over the weekend and we are able to get into the two new buildings on Tuesday.
Have a lovely last weekend of the holidays.!
The photographs below were taken today.
Rock Challenge
P6/7 had a great time performing at Rock Challenge in February. All of the parents/carers/pupils/staff who seen the performance at Eden Court, the IRA or the CCC all thought it was outstanding.
I said that hopefully we would be able to get a DVD of the performance to parents/carers, however this was not possible. I have however finally found where the video is stored online via Rock Challenge- add it to your favourites, i presume it will be there for the foreseeable. I have also added this to the 2011/2012- VIDEOS page.

Welcome- 2012/2013
A different year for Lochardil…
Today we looked at what the FUTURE may look like at school and at home using two clever video clips. The links are below:
A Day Made Of Glass
A Day Made Of Glass 2
We want to take this opportunity also to think about the PAST. For P6/7- this year was different. You had 3 teachers, and moved around from classroom to classroom. This has been a way of working which we have really enjoyed- BOTH pupils and teachers.
FOR WEDNESDAY 20th JUNE:
– Post your FAVOURITE event(s) from P6/7 this year on this blog post, and remember to say WHY it was your favourite…
See you tomorrow,
Mr.Cook, Mrs.MacLeod and Mrs.Prentice
