Tilly has a new home!

It has been a great week in P5 with lots going on.  We have been taking good care of our tomato plant that Miss Davidson gave us as part of the Tomato Plant Challenge and it has now more than doubled in size.  We have named our plant Tilly and this week we decided to repot it to give it more room to grow.

On Monday we finished our block of music and filmed our rap song videos.  There was lots of enthusiasm and some great videos.

On Wednesday we again were in the creative enquiry room focussing on our DYW jobs and some more tasks were finished.

In maths our focus this week was on measuring volume and converting units of volume.

A great week for learning outdoors.

It was good to have our athletics lesson all about learning jumping techniques outside on Tuesday. We were able to be creative about the space we could use.

Everyone in P5 had a great day on Thursday at Blair Drummond Safari Park. The weather has been particularly kind to us this week. On Friday P5a continued to learn about growing plants and learning outdoors. We have now planted our sunflower seeds that Miss Davidson was able to source for us. Hopefully we will be able to study their growth in different conditions and see most of them develop into sunflowers 🌻 by August. I am looking forward to watch our seedlings grow.

Blair Drummond Trip

Primary 5 had a great time on our school trip to Blair Drummond Safari Park today.  We all enjoyed watching the lions play and the very cute little baby monkey we saw as we drove through the enclosures.  We then watched the sealion show which was another highlight before walking round the park to visit some more of the animals.   Next we watched the Birds of Prey display where we learned some very interesting facts on owls. It was then lunch, the park and some more animals before heading back for the bus.  Lots of walking but lots of fun was had by all.

Maths – speed distance and time.

This week we have been learning about speed, distance and time as part of our measure unit in maths. Trundle wheels and timers helped us have a go. We then used our knowledge of the formula to help us calculate and solve time problems involving ‘speed, distance and time’.

Ball skills…and more.

In PE we have been working on different ball skills. However that’s not all…as each week in PE we also focus on skills such as resilience, determination, communication, teamwork, listening, concentration and problem solving….but in a fun and active way.
The children are working very hard to develop these skills, and having fun!

Creative enquiry

We have been enjoying exploring different jobs and have been working really hard to develop the skills needed for different careers. We have loved learning more about advertising and creating our own adverts with the green screen, there is still some editing to be done! We have also been fashion designers or architects and house builders. The enthusiasm, teamwork and communication has been fab to see, well done p6.

Planting seeds

Primary 2 were learning about and drawing the life cycle of a plant.

To complete the lesson, they planted Cucamelon seeds which they will observe growing and hopefully have the opportunity to taste the fruits.

They are very excited to taste the grape sized tangy cucumber like fruits.

Blair Drummond Trip

The children had a fantastic day at Blair Drummond Safari Park. Despite the rain, they had a great time watching the animals, going through the dinosaur trail and playing in the fort play park and pirate ship sand pit. A firm favourite was seeing Oscar the sea lion perform his tricks.

Thank you to our adult helpers for their support and to the children for being so well behaved.

A great day for everyone!
