Weekly roundup – P3a

This week the children have been very busy rehearsing and performing in the Rookie Rockstar Show. All the children had a fabulous time becoming real rockstars this week. In maths the children have been learning to identify the fraction in different shapes. We used the blocks to help us visualise our learning.

For our new Toy topic the children have been learning about different forces and friction, we explored this concept by playing with toy cars and experiementing with different surfaces.

We will be turning into toy designers next week, and to help the children warm up their design knowledge they were challenged to create a new brand of bottled water. The children loved choosing which one they would pay for in real life.

To end the week the children completed short talks about their favourite toys then during our Fun 31 time the children enjoyed playing with all their toys!

P5b

Last week we were busy working with Rookie Rockstars to learn our songs for our concerts this week.  We had lots of fun and are looking forward to performing them for everyone this week.  In the Creative enquiry room we were enjoying our new activities.  We were learning to code the micro bits , make a stop motion film, use our creativity with the building straws and work on our origami skills.

We also found time to go outside and plant sunflowers in pots so, hopefully it won’t take long for them to grow.

We were working on using the 4 operations in maths and have moved on to instructional writing.  Our first piece of writing was on how to make an ice cream sundae.

Sunflowers 🌻 and Rockstars 🕺

This week P5 have been busy revising the 4 operations in Number and learning to write a detailed piece of writing involving describing how to make an ice cream sundae . We all wanted to have an ice cream by the end of the lesson.

The whole school have been preparing for the Rookie Rockstar Concert next week and some of the class are quite excited about it.
Sports Day is on Monday and everyone needs to bring a P.E kit . Hopefully 🤞 the weather will be fine and we will all have a great day.

P5b

This week we started with a visit to the library.  It was great to have some time to chill and read then they got the opportunity to choose a book to bring back to read in class.

It was our last week completing our DYW tasks in the creative enquiry room so lots of finished work which we were able to share with our classmates.

Finally in PE this week we were focusing on our aiming and accuracy skills with various target games.  It also involved work together as a team and being able to stop and think about what worked well and problem solving game tactics.

P5a

This week P5a have completed work on volume . We have successfully planted sunflower seeds and seedlings are now appearing. By next Tuesday there should be about 24 sunflower 🌻 plants to be planted into large containers in the school. The children are enjoying learning as much as possible outside about plants and biodiversity.

Excitement in Primary 2 today as the children discovered one of our stick insects has hatched and was moving around the net. Just a little bit over a centimetre, it was welcomed into the class with squeals of delight. Still a few more to hatch so eager eyes are watching.

Also the first of our cucamelon seedlings have popped through the soil.

Nature is an amazing teacher!

P3a Poetic Dignity – RRSA

The Rights Respecting School Award spotlight this month was focused on Dignity, how we show dignity to others, and the rights which give us dignity. In P3a the children learned how to treat people with dignity through the wonderful story ‘The Invisible’ by Tom Percival. Afterward the children created acrostic poems to explore the theme Dignity.

P6a at Pinkston

We had a fantastic first day at Pinkston Basin taking part in a pilot for Glasgows Urban Adventure Award, engaging in outdoor learning adventures and activities. We had so much fun learning to Kayak as well as building our confidence in the water. We also spent time in the forest for our NOLA (national outdoor learning award) taking part in various different activities and working together. We can’t wait for our next session on 6th June!

P6b’s Trip to Blair Drummond Safari Park🐒

We had a great time exploring and adventuring at Blair Drummond! We got to see lots of different animals and were able to use our knowledge from our topic The Rainforest to identify some of the animals and share some facts about them. We saw giraffes, lions, monkeys, rhinos and many more. We especially liked the sea lion show! 🦭

We were lucky to have visited on such a warm sunny day and make some fabulous memories with our friends ☀️🦎🦖
