P5a had a great time outside today with Donald from Wildside Nature. We were learning all about the spooky Halloween animals. We learned all about bats and how they use echo-location, through a fun game. We learned about owls as predators hunting for mice and we learned all about the different parts of spiders through a fun dance!

First Week Back in the Playroom
We have had a wonderful first week back in P1b.
The children have all worked incredibly hard in all areas of their learning. Everybody loves our Room on the Broom topic and the children had a wonderful time exploring forces and story through a range of play experiences.
First Week Back – Wildside Nature
Primary 1 had an amazing experience with Wildside Nature when Donald came in to deliver a workshop. The children were learning about Halloween animals such as bats, owls and spiders.
They moved around like the animals and pretended to silently hunt their prey.
The highlight was learning about how bats use echo location to fly around in the dark and having an opportunity to be blindfolded and find each other.
Another great learning day in Primary 1b!

P3a First Week back
We have had a great week back in P3a. In maths we have been working hard using numberlines as a subtraction strategy and have made great progress. In art we were learning about tints and shades. We began practising being able to make these and then used our skills to create a piece of art. You will see the finished artwork next week.

On Tuesday we learned some new games during our active play.

We also began our lessons on Diwali, learning about Rama and Sita and why it is called the festival of lights.

On Friday we had lots of fun outdoors learning about Halloween animals with Donald from Wildside Nature. He gave us lots of interesting facts and the children got the chance to move around like the animals. They especially loved learning about bats and how they use echo location to find their food. Both Mrs Potter and Donald were very impressed at their enthusiasm and how much the children could remember from his last visit.

JRSO
We have been very busy talking to all the classes about walking 🚶 to school if possible. Next week we will give out badges.
Now it is getting dark we need to start getting everyone to think about wearing brightly coloured jackets 🧥 to school.
First week back – P1c
We have had a wonderful first week back in P1c. The children have all worked incredibly hard in all areas of their learning. Everybody loves our Room on the Broom topic and the children had a wonderful time exploring forces and story through a range of play experiences.

On Friday the children really enjoyed getting to see the P2s Harvest show and all the children were a fabulous audience. We then ended our week with a wonderful workshop from Wildside with Donald. All the children loved our outdoor learning and especially loved using echo location to understand how bats catch their food.

Halloween Ornaments
After a busy week, Primary 1 created spooky Halloween ornaments using paper plates.
All ornaments are different but they are all amazing.

Measuring Fun

Primary 1 had lots of fun measuring each other and the teacher using non standard units.
They used lollipop sticks and cubes to work out who was the tallest and shortest.
They were able to learn measuring skills and vocabulary which they can use in future activities.

Wildside Nature Workshop

The highlight was learning about how bats use echo location to fly around in the dark and having an opportunity to be blindfolded and find each other by sound alone.
Donald was very impressed with the knowledge and vocabulary that the children had when they were discussing the animals and mammals.
Another great learning day in Primary 1.

Term 2!
We have had a super busy week back after the October holidays!
Literacy – We continue to work on our class novel looking at direct and indirect speech. We used book creator to edit images from the book – adding in speech bubbles to show what the characters were saying to each other.
Maths – We have been working hard in maths this week, beginning work on shape. We were able to identify the properties of more complex shapes and were able to compare shape properties. Finding lines of symmetry in some shapes was quite tricky but we got there!
IDL – Our new topic this term is ‘Scotland’. we began by looking at a map of Scotland and identifying cities within it! we then thought about some of the famous landmarks within these cities that people go to visit!
