This week P2B have been exploring energy and character description through our interdisciplinary learning theme of super heroes. The pupils designed their own hero and wrote a description of their character. They also experimented with moving paper with static electricity and later in class discovered how we generate electricity from green energy sources. This week in PE we started Scottish Country dancing with p7a. We got off to a flying start, learning the Gay Gordons in the playground. We got very competitive showing Miss Stevenson the badminton skills we have been practising at Springburn Leisure Centre, with a very high energy game of around the world.
We have been doing some more film literacy this week, looking at camera angles and showed great understanding of how these can impact the viewer.
We have looked at the structure needed in report writing and will continue to do more work on this next week.
In Maths we have been working on multiplication and have been making great progress with this. We even managed to do some problem solving activities.
We have been continuing to work on our study skill sin PATHS and have identified things that distract us in class and have committed to trying to reduce these together as a team.
This week P7a were joined by Miss Glen from the University of the West of Scotland. Miss Glen will be helping us deliver the curriculum at different points throughout the year.
This week P7a started their new class novels: The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas & The Stowaway. We also extended our knowledge of fractions, learned about WW2 evacuees and created some art inspired by the Clydebank blitz.
Primary 3 have been learning about Fairtrade. We began by completing a survey to see what we knew and watched a video which explained what Fairtrade was. We then discussed why it is needed to help the farmers get enough money to look after their families. We chose the journey of the chocolate to learn about and were interested to find out that it starts as a cocoa bean on a tree thousands of miles away.
This week we’ve been working incredibly hard in numeracy; using the order of operations (B.O.D.M.A.S) to solve problems involving more than one operation.
We’ve been chasing away the January blues with some inspired performances for our Burn’s showcase. P7a have been working tirelessly to learn their lines, songs and stage directions.
The weather hasn’t been great, but we’ve been very mature and sensible when hiding inside from the rain.
