P6a Weekly Update

🔤Literacy – this week in writing we continue to work on characterisation, comparing characters by their personalities, actions and how they communicate. We focussed on the characters of Miss Honey and Miss Trunchbull from the novel Matilda.

🧊Maths – we have continued to explore shape during our maths lessons. This week we looked at 3D shapes and thought about how they are formed and what real life objects they relate to.

🎵For music we have enjoyed developing our skills on the glockenspiel. This week we were practising the song ‘Jingle Bells’. It was quite tricky to keep in time but everyone had a lot of fun.

Scottish Inventions!

As part of our IDL topic on Scotland, p6a have been researching famous Scottish Inventions!

We found that Scotland actually had a lot of inventions over the years! Some of them we didn’t know about. Here are just a few of the ones we discovered :-

  • William Cullen: Artificial Refrigeration (fridge)
  • Alexander Cumming: The “S-trap” Flush Toilet
  • John Logie Baird: The Television
  • Alexander Graham Bell and the Telephone.
  • Robert William Thomson & John Boyd Dunlop: The Pneumatic Tire
  • Alexander Fleming: Penicillin.
  • Kirkpatrick Macmillan – The pedal bike
  • David Brewster – Kaleidoscope
  • James Clerk Maxwell – Colour Photography

We took a note of the year all these inventions and created our own timelines!

Our Weekly Update!

🧠This week in class we have been working on our growth mindset. We know that mistakes are part of our learning and help us to grow – they are not a sign of weakness.

💭In class we can improve our growth mindset by embracing challenges, showing persistence and resilience, acting on feedback given and trying our best.

P6a- Weekly Update

PE – This week in P.E we have been working on our passing skills in netball. We took part in some short drills that encouraged us to look when we are passing and receiving the ball. It was quite tricky yo begin with but once we got into the rhythm there was no stopping us!

H&WB – This week in our PATHS lessons, we have been learning all about the skills required to be an effective group member. We have used what we have learned to work together and carry out research tasks for our Scotland topic. Within each group everyone has a role. We will work together and create a short presentation which we will deliver to the class.

Term 2!

We have had a super busy week back after the October holidays!

Literacy – We continue to work on our class novel looking at direct and indirect speech. We used book creator to edit images from the book – adding in speech bubbles to show what the characters were saying to each other.

Maths – We have been working hard in maths this week, beginning work on shape. We were able to identify the properties of more complex shapes and were able to compare shape properties. Finding lines of symmetry in some shapes was quite tricky but we got there!

IDL – Our new topic this term is ‘Scotland’. we began by looking at a map of Scotland and identifying cities within it! we then thought about some of the famous landmarks within these cities that people go to visit!

Class Charter

Primary 6a have been working hard on their class charter.

A class charter is a set of rules, that children and teachers have all agreed on for the classroom.

These rules created to help children understand that they have certain rights in the classroom. These rights are important, as they help to keep everyone safe and happy while they are at school.

Class charters also help us to develop a sense of responsibility, ensuring that the classroom environment is fair for everyone.

we have come up with our own set of class rule which we have all agreed to. This should make our class environment enjoyable for the year ahead!
