P6a weekly update!

🔤Literacy – we continue to work hard on our reading. We have developed our skills in reciprocal reading and paired reading. We are becoming more confident when reading aloud. This week we have worked on our skimming and scanning skills as well as ensuring we answer questions in full sentences.

🔢Maths – this week we took our learning outdoors for some orienteering fun! We answered place value questions that were hidden around the playground. This was a lot of fun and everyone worked well!

🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️PE – this week we took advantage of the nice weather and went to the pitch for our PE lessons. Continuing with our team work, we played games of rounders. What great sportsmanship we have in p6a.

This week in p6a!

Literacy – For the past few weeks, p6a have been working really hard to improve their spelling. Daily input in class has been working well to help boost weekly spelling results and children have been engaging in a wide range of written and active tasks each week.

Maths – In maths, we have been working on money, looking at bank statements. We had fun looking at different scenarios and creating bank statements for people, thinking about their situations and what their income and outgoings would be. It was very eye-opening to see how much things cost and how little money can be left at the end of the month to do fun things!

Space Art

This week p6a created some fantastic space art using chalk pastels. We worked on our blending skills and shading, using white chalk to create a 3D effect.
We looked at scale to ensure our images were not too big and not too small.
The class were very impressed with the end results (as was Mrs Gray!)

Author Visit

This week, as part of World Book Day, we were very fortunate to have a visit from Rob Biddulph – a bestselling award-winning children’s book author and illustrator.

We have been enjoying reading one of his fabulous novels in class called ‘Peanut Jones and the Illustrated City’.

As part of the visit, we got to hear about some of the other wonderful books that Rob has written. We were also invited to take part in a live drawing session with Rob which was a lot of fun!!

Golf-it!

Yesterday p6a were lucky enough to enjoy some golf lessons with one of the coaches from Golf-it!

We worked on our putting and chipping skills! There was lots of talent shining through in p6 and lots of fun had by everyone.

This week in p6a!

What a busy week we have had in p6a!

Literacy – We enjoyed working on Digital Film Literacy tasks this week. We focussed on a short clip from the movie ‘The Corpse Bride’ and used our knowledge and understanding of character, setting and photography to help us analyse what was happening. This was a movie most of us had never seen but now want to!

Reading – We have all worked really hard in reading this week using our skimming and scanning skills to help us find relevant information.

Maths – In maths, we have been revising division strategies! we have found this concept quite tricky at times but we have all shown great perseverance. We also began work on money this week!

Photography

Our first IDL block this term is focussing on photography. We have been working on our camera skills, looking at different angles and shots.

We took what we learned outdoors, and were very creative in our work. Look at some of the fantastic pictures we took on our iPads! I think we have some budding photographers in p6a!

Our week in P6a

🔤Literacy – we have began work on poetry – analysing what to include in a ‘good poem’. We have focussed on the use of rhyming words and similes.

🔢Numeracy – in numeracy this week we have been looking at squared number patterns. The children were all very engaged and enjoyed the challenge. They can’t wait to move on to cubed and triangular numbers.

🧠Health and Well-being – following on from our work on growth mindset in term 2, we read the book ‘The Dot’ by Peter H Reynolds. This book encourages creativity and helps to promote a positive mindset. We used our imaginations and creative skills to draw some pictures using a ‘dot’ within each. We have some very good artistic talents in p6a!

P6a – Christmas Party!

This week, both p6 classes had lots of fun at their Christmas party 🎵🎄

There was lots of music, dancing and food! We even managed to have a bit of fun with some party games.

Wishing all our families a wonderful Christmas and an Happy New Year. We can’t wait to see you all back in 2025!

Weekly Update!

This week p6a enjoyed a trip to the Kings Theatre to see Peter Pan! The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and represented the school proudly. What a great start to the week and a lovely treat for everyone.

In class we have been busy working on characterisation in writing! We used the description bubbles to help us when creating our own characters. We then expanded our notes, adding more detail, to create a description of our characters.
