Parent Council
Pirie Park Primary Parent Council is made up of parents/carers and teaching staff and its job is to represent the views of the Parent Forum (all the parents and carers of children at the school) on issues around the education of our children and to support the school though fundraising to provide additional learning experiences for our children e.g. trips, outings and equipment.
Our Parent Council usually meets every 2 months (September, November, January, March – AGM, May) throughout the school year directly after school in the school meeting room. Dates are published in the school newsletter and through social media. (the school Facebook is Pirie-Park Primary and their Twitter is @piriepark2014, the Parent Council Facebook is Pirie Park Primary Parent Council). Anyone interested in finding out more about us is welcome to come along to a meeting or contact us by email and one of our members will call you back or contact the school office.
We are always keen to hear the views of parents/carers – the Parent Council can be contacted directly by email at pirieparkprimaryparentcouncil@gmail.com,via the school office on 0141 445 5884, via our FB page or in person if you see any members around the campus or at the gates.
When the school opened in January 2010 the Parent Council, along with education issues, focussed on fundraising however since 2016 our approach has moved in line with the city-wide Cost of the School Day initiative so, with the exception of our tearoom activities at the Christmas Fayre, we ensure our activities are accessible to all and are cost-neutral. Cost of the School Day activites have included free Family Film Nights, free Halloween and Spring or Summer discos and we have provided Easter bonnet and Easter egg decorating activities. Additionally we have provided equipment such as digital cameras for classrooms, given financial support for whole school activities such as the Hopscotch Christmas panto performances in the school, supported the P7 & P6 residential trips, P7 end of year activities, individual class projects (e.g. Clyde in the Classroom) and provided gifts for the new P1s. In 2017 we supported the school be awarded £10,000 from Awards for All for playground equipment to enhance the outdoor learning opportunities. We have consulted parents and fedback to Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Government on a number of subjects and are regularly represented at the Glasgow city-wide parent forum meetings. on the breakfast club provision and successfully supported the completion of the traffic management issues around the school.
The current Chairperson is Cheryl Learmonth (children in P2 & P5) and the Treasurer/Secretary is Alison Guthrie (child in P5). Other parent members are Mark Johnstone (child in P5), Nikki Murray (child in P2) and Helen Turnbull (child in P6). Staff members are Mrs Clark, Mrs Pomphrett and Mrs Benson. Mrs Arthur is an advisor to the Parent Council and provides a report to every meeting.
We welcome new members at all meetings – no need to say in advance!
Any ideas for fundraising are most welcome!
