Primary 3B with Mr McGuigan

Summary of Learning

Literacy

For writing this term we will be looking at character and setting descriptions. This will link in with our inter-disciplinary learning about Vikings and children will be given the opportunity to write a story in this context.

We are continuing to read 3 times a week within our groups looking at common words and comprehension skills. We will also be working on some spelling patterns in class this term.

Our class novel is ‘How to be a Viking’

We are continuing to learn cursive joins for each lower-case letter.

Numeracy & Maths

In numeracy we will be looking at multiplication and division strategies, using a range of concrete, pictorial and abstract approaches.

Within maths, we are looking at fractions (which will link with our work on division) and time. This includes finding equal parts of objects and groups of numbers, organising our daily routine and reading times from 12-hour clocks.

PE Days

Our P.E days are a Thursday (in the gym hall) and Friday (on the outdoor pitch). We also have P.E.E.K every second Wednesday afternoon which is active play in the playground.

Please dress your child for P.E on these days (and for the weather) and ensure they are not wearing any jewellery.

Homework/home learning

We hope to send out spelling words and challenges each week as well as setting online maths challenges. Please note that homework is primarily to keep parents and carers up to date on what is taking place in the classroom and does not contribute to any ongoing assessment.
