Primary 3B with Mrs Soutter
Summary of Learning
Literacy
In phonics, we have started by revising some of the vowel diagraphs that were introduced in Primary 2 to increase our confidence and ability to apply them within reading.
We are continuing to read within our groups with the support of Mrs Brown. Here we are focusing on common word recognition, decoding unfamiliar words, asking and answering questions about a text and reading with confidence.
Within writing we will be looking at the genre of a ‘recount,’ we will also be reinforcing the use of basic punctuation when writing in sentences. We will start to learn the joins in our handwriting.
Numeracy & Maths
Within numeracy, we will be revising numbers to 100 ensuring the children have a solid understanding of the value of each digit in a 2-digit number. We will be partitioning numbers, skip counting, placing numbers on number lines and estimating. There will opportunities to move beyond 2-digit numbers for additional challenge.
Within maths we will be looking at 2D and 3D shapes, focusing on using mathematical language to describe their features. We will also incorporate this into our art and look at some famous artists who use shape and pattern in their work.
PE Days
Our P.E days are a Monday (on the outdoor pitch) and a Thursday (in the Gym Hall).
Please dress your child for P.E on these days (and for the weather) and ensure they are not wearing any jewellery.
