Easy Fundraising

Easy Fundraising - Girlguiding Midlands

Did you know that whenever you buy anything online from your weekly shop to your annual holiday you could be raising a free donation for our Parent Council? So far this year our Parent Council has received £146.16 of donations through East Fundraising.

There are nearly 3,000 retailers including Amazon, John Lewis, Aviva, the Trainline and Sainsbury’s, who will donate a percentage of the amount you spend to our Parent Council to say thank you for shopping with them.

It’s really simple, and doesn’t cost you anything.

All you have to do is:

1. Go to https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/hyndlandprimary/

2. Sign up for free

3. Get shopping – your donations will be collected by Easy Fundraising and automatically sent to our Parent Council. It couldn’t be easier!

There are no catches or hidden charges and we would be really grateful for your donations.

More information can be found through the EasyFundraising’s how to videos https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/raisemore/get-started/videos

Thank you for your support!

Young Scot National Entitlement Card (NEC)

Dear Parent/Carer,

Pupils can now get free bus travel by applying for a new or replacement Young Scot National Entitlement Card (NEC). To make this process as easy as possible Education have published a simplified version of the government application form on Smart Survey for parents/carers of children under 12. Your application will go to Glasgow Life who will process your details and arrange for the cards to be delivered to your home address. You can access the survey here:

Sustainability Superheroes Applications

Our school is on the lookout for some Sustainability Superheroes!

Would you like to help to make our school more environmentally friendly? Do you have lots of ideas about how we could make a difference to our school and the surrounding area? Would you like to be a Sustainability Superhero?

As a Sustainability Superhero you will work with other pupils from across the school to help make Hyndland Primary a more environmentally friendly place. You will also work with others to learn and share your knowledge of the Sustainable Development Goals and think of ways we can help achieve these. One pupil from each class will be selected to become a Sustainability Superhero for the rest of the school year. Our meetings will be on a Thursday during school time.

Further information on how to apply can be found here: Application Poster

All applications should be returned by Wednesday 19th of January.

Rising Stars

As some of you have already noticed, our Rising Stars subscription for some of our digital reading books has now expired.

Thank you to those of you who took the time to complete the survey about the Rising Stars resource that was shared earlier in the term and provide such honest and constructive feedback – this is greatly appreciated! I have since been able to share the findings of this with the Hodder Education who produce the resource.

I communicated the difficulties that staff, parents, carers and learners have experienced at various points over the last year of subscription during a phonecall with the sales manager and have also been in regular contact with the Director of Digital Change from the company. As a result, they are currently looking into ways that they can make up for this to the school and our families moving forward.

I will be in touch in due course when I hear the outcome form the company. Many thanks again for your ongoing patience and support.

Water Bottles

This is a reminder to please send pupils to school with water (enough for a full day). On the occasions when they might forget/ run out, we do have water available. However, it is helpful if they come with their own water as a matter of routine.

Many thanks for your co-operation with this.

Request for Re-Homing Outgrown Clothing

If you have any underwear (pants, socks, tights) or trousers your wee one has outgrown, we would happily take donations for our ‘spares’ box – they come in really handy when there are little toilet accidents. Just hand to Ms Chambers in the playground if you can help.

Many thanks!

Becoming a Plastic Free School

Introduction

Due to the constantly changing climate, our school has decided to sign up to be a plastic-free school. This may seem impossible, but every day we are finding ways to battle single-use plastic in our school, such as crisp packets, water bottles and sandwich wrappers used to cover our sandwiches in the school dinner hall. We are encouraging children, if not the whole schools, to recycle what they can and take part in the fight against climate change. We have signed up to become a “Plastic Free School” with Surfers Against Sewage to try to reduce and recycle as much single use plastic as we can.

How we can become a Plastic Free School?

We need to achieve 5 of the following goals:

1)  Action plan – We need to create an action plan on what we’re going to do.

2) Trash mob – In January we’re going to have a week where classes are responsible for collecting the rubbish that is left in the playground and around the cricket pitch.

3) Challenging government – We’re going to write to our MSP, telling them about our ideas and asking for their support.

4) Challenging industry – After collecting the rubbish from our litter pick, we’re going to sort it and identify the main companies that create the products that make up the majority of the rubbish.

5) Commit to getting rid of 3 problematic pieces of plastic – single use

What we have done so far?

We identified that the dinnerhall and packed lunches were big contributors to the issue of singe use plactic within the school. We have had a discussion with Cathy – one of the catering staff, on how we can cut down on single use plastic and came up with some ideas to help us get there. We paired up in class and designed a poster for each bin we plan on using for recycling. The items we are recycling are; soft plastic off of our sandwich wrappers, grape tubs / yoghurt pots, plastic water bottles provided to us in school and crisp packets, along with some creating some videos on how to recycle each of them.

We also created videos to show the other pupils in the school how to use these bins. Please have a look at them.
