Goal 2 – Zero Hunger

This week we are going to have a look at Sustainable Development Goal number 2: Zero Hunger.

Did you know that some people have so much food that they have to throw some of it away? Others don’t have enough or only have the one type of food! Eating only one kind of food can cause our bodies to become really weak.

Watch the challenge video with Mrs Batista here!

Your challenge this week is to create a poster of showing what your favourite meal is and then find out what people eat in developing countries. Do you think they get enough variety of food?

Please send your entries to hpssustainability@glow.sch.uk by Wednesday 24th February.

Goal 3 – Good Health & Wellbeing

Hello everyone!

Welcome to our second Sustainability Challenge!

Thank you for all of your entries for last weeks challenge! I was very impressed with them all!

This week as you may know is Children’s Mental Health Week, so we are going to think about Sustainable Development Goal number 3 which is Good Health & Wellbeing. The aim is to make sure that everybody in the whole world had access to doctors, nurses, healthcare and the right medicine. It also means that everybody has access to support with their mental health.

Your challenge this week is to have a think about something you do or a place you go that makes you feel better if you’re feeling a sad or worried. Watch the video to hear some suggestions.

I know how creative you all are, so it’s up to you how you complete this challenge? You could ask somebody to film you doing something that makes you feel better, you could draw a picture of you doing something, or if it’s something that you can’t do at the moment you could try to recreate it in your house using different props! Make sure to check with an adult before you borrow anything or go anywhere!

Once you have completed your challenge, ask an adult to help you email your entry to hpssustainability@glow.sch.uk by Wednesday 17th of February.

I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

Have a great weekend,

Mrs Batista

Goal 14 – Life Below Water

Hello everyone,

Click here to watch Mrs Batista explain a little bit about the Sustainable Development Goals

Mrs Batista would like you to listen to the story Duffy’s Lucky Escape by Elie Jackson and Liz Oldmeadow. Once you have listened to it, she would like you to design a poster encouraging people to use less single use plastic, and to recycle their plastic so that it doesn’t end up in the ocean. Please make sure your name and class are on it.

Please ask an adult to help you take a photo of your poster, and send it to hpssustainability@glow.sch.uk

All entries should be sent by Wednesday the 3rd of February. All entries will receive a certificate and the winning entry from each class will receive a prize on their return to school.

Partick & Thornwood Ideas Fund

Our local Annexe Communities Group group have opened a fund aimed at under 18s applying for individual funding. You may remember the school was awarded funds for outdoor learning just before Christmas, when our P7 pupils put forward a video proposal. The individual funding being offered this time, may be beneficial for some of our pupils who perhaps have limited devices at home for the purpose of Home learning. All applications will need to be supported by an adult sponsor. Further information and applications will be Groupcalled out to all our families today

Vodafone SIM Cards

A groupcall was sent to families today regarding free SIM cards to support families who do not have access to the internet at home. Please read the letter below for more information and contact Miss Moir if you have any queries.

Tea Towels and School Calendar

The pupils of Hyndland Primary School have been busy drawing miniature self portraits to be
included on a tea towel. There are two designs: one for Primary 1-3 and one for Primary 4-7.
The tea towels cost £4 each with £2 from every sale going towards school funds.

Each class were asked to design a page for the school calendar and the staff at Afty were given the difficult job of choosing a winner from each class. They wanted everyone to know how impressed they were with the work produced by all of the pupils.

Afty have kindly offered the use of their printer to help with the production of the calendars. These will be sold at £3 with all proceeds going towards school fund.

If you wish to purchase any of these things, please fill in and return the envelope that was sent home with your child, including the correct money.
