Cooking Kitchen Disruption Next Week

Good afternoon Hyndland families

Unfortunately next week due to essential extensive works in the schoolkitchen linked to our boiler refurbishment, our team will be unable to use gas to prepare food on site.
Our area catering manager has made arrangements for soup, fruit, yoghurts and packed lunches for pupils to be available from Monday 16th (if planned industrial action does not go ahead) until Thursday 19th January.

We are sorry for any inconvenience and disruption to provision, but the procedures are crucial to the wider school works being completed within the CBG schedule.
For the four days next week lunch orders will be taken in the classroom as the menus will not match the online system.

Welcome Back!

We are looking forward to welcoming back our families tomorrow morning ; we hope you all had a lovely summer and we can’t wait to see you back at Hyndland for another exciting session l!

Our new P1 pupils have been sent information already from Ms Chambers regarding start and finish arrangements for this week.

For our returning P2-7 classes; pupils will all be starting at 9am tomorrow and school will finish for all classes at 3:15pm. At 9am children should gather in their class lines in the following muster points, where they will be met by their class teacher at 9am. School staffs will be in the playground tomorrow from 8.45am (and for the rest of this week) should you need any help finding your new playground or line. From tomorrow the Top Playground will not be available before 9am , as our Afty have resumed their pre pandemic use of that secure area for their Breakfast Club.

P2- line up at the glass doors in playground 2 ; P2A on the ramp, P2B at bottom of the stairs. Both P2 classes will be dismissed from this door at the end of the day. Break and Lunch Playground 2

P3- line up at the main door in playground 2, they will be dismissed from this door at the end of the day. Break and Lunch Playground 2

P4- line up in playground 1, they will also be dismissed from this door at the end of the day. Break and Lunch Playground 3

P5- line up in the playground 3 beside the wall (Mrs MacAulay will guide you to your new spot),pupils will then be escorted down by class teachers and enter via the main door. P5 will be dismissed via the main door at the end of the day. Break and Lunch Playground 3

P6- line up in playground 3, they will then enter the glass doors beside the gym hall behind P7 classes. At the end of the day they will be dismissed via the glass doors into playground 2. Break and ;Lunch Toppy (Playground 4)

P7- line up at the bike shed at the glass doors beside the gym hall in playground 3. P7 will be dismissed via these doors at the end of the day. Break and Lunch Toppy (Playground 4)

From the first full week of term, access to the MUGA will be rotated at lunchtimes so all classes have a chance to enjoy this facility

In playground 1, Janny Brian has been building a new decking area for our pupils to enjoy, however until it is complete and risk assessed we ask that parents and pupils do not use the space that is cordoned off. HUGE thanks to Janny Brian for his summer super human efforts to transform playground one!

A reminder that pupils should choose their lunch at home as they did last session before they come into school. Our teachers will check this has been done first thing in the morning-please remember we cannot change the choice online of meal after it is made at home as it is locked by the system. However if a child is unhappy with their initial choice we will support them to have the lunch they would like.Our new P6 pupils and senior students in P7 are reminded that they are no longer eligible for the universal free school meal provision, unless they are entitled to a Free School Meal via application. Al applications should be renewed before the end of October via the GCC website . All lunch payment/settling of accounts from prior years must be made through ParentPay, as our kitchen no longer accepts cash payments. If you require login details then please contact the school office after 11am on Wednesday.

Please remember that if you are in receipt of the Free School Meals and Clothing Grant then you need to reapply for the continuance of that funding by October to ensure the entitlement does not lapse, further information can be found on Glasgow City Council’s website here: https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=17885

Over the summer our home-school communication platform, Seesaw, had some changes which might affect your access to the app and some families may require a new QR code to login. Further information will be sent out next week so that pupils can login at home.

Request from our Neighbours

Dear Parents and Families ,

We have had a number of complaints this week, when the weather has been better, from our close neighbours about families from our school using the green space at the front of the flats  on Fortrose Street.

May we ask that our families remember that the residents at the lower levels of these apartments often have mobility or care issues and require as peaceful an environment as possible.

Our neighbours are concerned at the level of supervision and respectful use of the small grassed area and entry points of the flats as well as school related litter in the area.

We have been advised that the issue  has become so problematic and impacted adversely  on residents housing experience that a referral will be made to the community police if matters do not improve.

Our school has always played an esteemed and affirmative role within our community, and we greatly value the opinions and support of all of our neighbours.

Please help us to restore the social equilibrium in Fortrose Street by respecting our neighbours requests to reduce noise and carefully supervise any young people using the grassed space and do not use the courtyard entrance as a play area.

On a secondary matter, our school has suffered significant damage to our outdoor classroom and extensive littering over eveings/weekends recently ,which reached a peak over the Jubilee Weekend.

Our Janitorial Team faced such a large scale clean up on Monday that it was prioritised by potentially harmful litter and we were unable to complete this sweep  before the children came into school and the operation continued well into the morning. Debris from alcohol, food and substance misuse was strewn across every playground and the MUGA. With our valued partners in Afty many make shift interventions have had to be applied in recent weeks because of horrendous vandalism and tagging of school property.

We know how challenging it was for our families to raise the funds for the creation of structures that improve children’s quality of outdoor play; it is demoralising having to assess the damage which is being inflicted every day. We have referred this to our community police team . We would appeal to anyone using the social spaces on campus (although not condoned) to do so respectfully. If you are aware of any information that may help our policing team resolve this antisocial behaviour please contact our office or SLT who will act as a conduit to Police Scotland

Industrial Action – 29th and 30th of March

Dear Hyndland Families and Carers,

We have been asked to share the following communication , received this afternoon, from our Directorate. As a consequence of the equal pay strike action notified for Tuesday 29 and Wednesday 30 March 2022 a centralised assessment of the likely staffing impact has led to the conclusion establishments cannot safely open for early years and childcare settings, primary schools and ASL schools on the 29th and 30th March.

GCC Primary schools will be closed to pupils on both days in response to reduced staffing levels and the health and safety risk due to the anticipated reduction in cleaning resources.

In all cases, we have been notified that staff will expected to report for work as normal in their own school / nursery and, where closed to pupils, undertake appropriate work or staff development activity similar to an in-service day. We have been advised that there is no expectation of a digital learning offer for pupils over the closure period.

Unfortunately our second Parents Evenings were due to be held upon the evening of Wednesday 30th March; as there will be no LETS granted for these two days , we will have to move the telephone appointments to the next evening Thursday 31st March
( all times will remain the same).

P2A Teachers Wednesday 30th Appointments will move to Monday 28th March due to an unavoidable clash of revised dates. If you cannot take your call on the new date please contact our school office team so we can try and reschedule your call.

Our sincere apologies for the late changes but we have only been advised of the Council decision today to close establishments.
