Homecoming Scotland

Scotland is welcoming the world in 2014. Homecoming Scotland 2014 now includes over 700 events, happening the length and breadth of the country, extending the benefits of the Ryder Cup and the Commonwealth Games and positioning Scotland on the international stage as a dynamic and creative country with a rich history and culture.

We would like to hear what Homecoming activity your school is undertaking and would be grateful if you could complete a short survey by 9 May 2014. There are five questions so completion should only take a few minutes. This will help the Scottish Government and Education Scotland to build a picture of what is taking place in schools across the country.

John Muir Education Pack

This resource aims to help teachers understand outdoor learning opportunities, and give confidence to use outdoor spaces for teaching a wide range of experiences and outcomes. The pack for Second Level encourages structured learning in the outdoors, along with a deeper understanding of John Muir’s writings and philosophies. The pack can be used flexibility as stand-alone activities to cover certain aspects of the topic or as activities leading into each other as a programme of learning. The Second Level pack can help with an introduction to the John Muir Award.

The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games: Promoting Equality and Diversity

7 May 2014 (9.00 – 3.00), Hampden National Stadium, Glasgow

With Scotland’s biggest ever cultural and multi-sport event so close we would like to invite practitioners to join us and find out more about issues related to the Commonwealth Games. The three core values of the 2014 games are humanity, equality and destiny and the conference will engage with these values through speakers and workshops focused on equality, diversity and human rights issues as well as the inclusion of all.

The event will showcase inspirational initiatives from schools and third sector organisations across the board, highlighting programmes available to teachers and ensuring that, together, we deliver a lasting legacy for learning.

To help us better support composing music in the classroom, Education Scotland would like to invite practitioners to participate in a very short survey which will help direct us towards developing appropriate support materials. This consultation will also take into account feedback from our learning blog and inform next steps for the working group.
