ST ANDREWS LITERATURE LIVE! 2012

FRIDAY 26TH – SATURDAY 27TH OCTOBER 2012

 St Andrews Literature Live! is a new two day literary feast featuring a host of local and international writers in St Andrews.

Headlining the two day event is the internationally acclaimed BBC Middle East Correspondent Jeremy Bowen discussing his new book ‘The Arab Uprising’ and the popular Scottish author Iain Banks with his new book ‘Stonemouth’.

Produced by Waterstones in association with the Byre Theatre of St Andrews, the events brings together live readings, discussions, demonstrations as well as live theatre covering a wide range subjects including: Cookery; Fiction; Crime; Scottish History; Poetry; Politics; Children’s literature, and of course no event in St Andrews is complete without Golf!

 Julie Thow, Manager of Waterstones, St Andrews said: “We are delighted to bring this exciting collection of local and international authors to St Andrews for what will be an amazing two days.”

 Head of Marketing & Development at the Byre Theatre, David Orr claimed the festival further enhanced St Andrews reputation as a creative hub in its award winning year as Scotland’s Creative Place. “In this year of Creative Scotland we are excited to be the host venue for so many highly acclaimed writers at the Byre and look forward to welcoming them to St Andrews!”

Poetry CPD Sessions

June 15th

With St.Andrews being named a Winning Words Beacon town for the year 2012, The Byre Theatre is running two CPD sessions with a top poet this June.

Ryan Van Winkle, Poet in Residence at Edinburgh City Libraries, will be running two training sessions for primary and secondary teachers, focusing on how to bring poetry into the classroom via the Olympic Games and Sport.

Monday 20th February 2012 –10am-3pm

Cost – The course is FREE to participants but there will be a small charge of £10.00 to cover tea/coffee and lunches

The Byre Theatre is offering a day long Continuing Professional Development course entitled “Devising Contemporary Theatre – a Masterclass”. This CPD takes a fresh approach to what, how and where young people learn and aims to support the nurturing of young people as successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors.

As a member of Fife’s new Creative Learning Network and as a steering group member of Fife’s Cultural Consortium (supporting the delivery of Fife’s Cultural Strategy), we are delighted to be able to offer a one-off in-service opportunity at Auchterderran Centre, Cardenden.

The workshop will be delivered by the Education and Outreach Officer from the Byre Theatre, who will share drama games and exercises and workshop plans on how to make, create a piece of devised, contemporary theatre in the Secondary classroom.
