Divided City Event at Citizen’s Theatre – Primary Event

11.00 am

Funded by the Scottish Government, the Citizens Theatre and South Lanarkshire Culture and Leisure are re-mounting the hit musical stage version of Theresa Breslin’s award winning novel, Divided City, with a 40 strong cast of 3rd year pupils from across South Lanarkshire. To help teachers and pupils get inside the world of the book and the production there will be two Glow meets (one Primary and the other Secondary) with the author and the creative team behind the hit musical version of Divided City.

This is the Primary event (glow password required) and will include a special opportunity to ask author Theresa Breslin questions about Divided City and find out how the creative team from the new production in Hamilton took the book from page to stage

To help teachers and pupils get inside the world of the book and the production there will be two Glow meets (one Primary and the other Secondary) with the author and the creative team behind the hit musical version of Divided City.

This is the Secondary event (glow password required) which will feature a lively discussion asking whether young people today have experienced sectarianism or prejudice similar to those experienced by the characters in Divided City.

Laugh and Learn this Red Nose Day, 6 February, 11.15 am

Red Nose Day is back on Friday 15 March! Join the team from Comic Relief for this pre event on Glow TV. Get top tips on making Red Nose Day in your school fun and easy and develop understanding on how money raised can transform lives. This seminar will also feature a case study from John Duncan of Westhill Academy in Aberdeenshire. He will be telling us about how his students led their amazingly successful Red Nose Day in 2011 – by having fun, raising money and learning through the process.

Paper Creativity Challenge – Ernest, 15 January 2013, 11 am

Now it is your chance to Glow Meet with Catherine Rayner as she reads her book ‘Ernest’. During this session you will have the opportunity to read and explore the story of Ernest, a rather large moose, with early years pupils and then Catherine will work with older children and demonstrate to them how to illustrate texts. Ideally learners should have paper and paint so that they can also try the techniques.

Interdisciplinary Learning in Primary Schools

This seminar, presented by Education Scotland’s Joanne McLauchlan and Graeme Logan, will explore features of strong emerging practice in the planning, teaching and assessment of interdisciplinary learning across Scotland.

Based on national advice and good practice, the seminar will include:

– examples of the two types of IDL which form part of Curriculum for Excellence
– key points to consider when designing and implementing IDL across a school and cluster
– features of effective planning and assessment, including examples

The Scottish Ten – 3D Digital Scanning

The Centre for Digital Documentation and Visualisation LLP is a joint venture established in 2010 between Historic Scotland and Glasgow School of Art.

Dr Lyn Wilson from CDDV and Historic Scotland will present a Glow TV session on 3D digital scanning on 5th December 2012.

The Scottish Learning Festival 2012

This week Education Scotland hosted another successful Scottish Learning Festival.   Over the two days, they welcomed around 4500 visitors, hosted 100 seminars, delivered inspiring keynote addresses and facilitated discussion and debate in the round table sessions.
