Chris Evans said: “We were overwhelmed last year to be inundated with thousands of truly creative and fantastic entries from nearly 30,000 kids, and in 2012 we need your help to make the competition even bigger than before. To read is good, but to write is even better and dare I say it, can even be more fun.”

Primary Schools
Venue: various schools
The National Museums Scotland have been working with a Primary 6 class from Methilhill Primary and Community School on a partnership project, funded by the Robertson Trust, since last March. The class have been researching and devising their own resources on the theme of Africa, based on the collections of the museum. This box of museum objects, complete with teachers notes (researched by the pupils) will then be available for general borrowing in the Fife area initially and then around Scotland.
On Thursday 2nd February, the pupils are hosting a community day at their school to show off their work and on their behalf I would like to invite you along. The day will run 2.30pm – 3.30pm at the school and will feature a show of an exhibition set up by the pupils and an African drum performance by the children.
We are delighted to announce details of ‘Introducing Drama at Primary School Level’. This opportunity is being brought to you by The Byre Theatre, St Andrews (supported through Fife’s Creative Learning Network) and will be held on Friday 18 November 2011, Conference Room 2, Auchterderran Centre from 10.00am – 3.00pm. Please note that the course is FREE but a small charge of £10 per applicant has been applied to cover tea, coffee and lunches. Places must be applied for through the CPD Management System
Using drama in the classroom for Primary School teachers and drama practitioners is a day long workshop designed to introduce different ways of using drama in the classroom including interactive storytelling and drama games and exercises. The participants will actively participate in the workshop in order to gain a clear understanding of the drama process from both sides. At the end of the session, the participants will have created a short piece of theatre from scratch that they can then use again should they wish.
The delegates will receive a complete workshop plan from the day filled with practical ideas they can use with their class.
Course Outcomes
At the end of this course you will have achieved these outcomes:
• Working in a different way – teaching different subjects through creative drama
• A wider knowledge and understanding of using creative drama techniques and games
• An understanding of how to create performance within a short space of time
• A greater confidence to try these drama skills in your own classroom
