Creativity and Learning in the Wild

Tuesday 26 February 2013

10:00 – 16:00

The Falcon Education Centre, Aviemore

This active, outdoor event aims to inspire lecturers to work creatively out of doors, developing interdisciplinary skills with creative approaches. The event will also offer an opportunity to develop an understanding of the John Muir Award and how this can be used to enhance learners’ skill and qualifications. A major feature of the day will be designing and carrying out activities including shelter building, generating ideas of how to use this as potential evidence for assessment.

Cultural Exchange opportunity in Los Angeles for socially-engaged emerging leaders

The British Council has established an exchange programme in partnership with the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA), which aims to facilitate creative partnerships between emerging leaders in cultural practice for social action in UK and LA.  We are offering three grants of around $6500 each to support socially-engaged emerging cultural leaders from the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) to undertake residencies of two to three weeks with one or more host organization(s) in Los Angeles. Attached is a PDF with full guidelines for this opportunity.

The residencies will take place in the City’s 2013-14 fiscal year, starting July 1, 2013 and ending June 30, 2014. This is the second part of an exchange program that has seen three Los Angeles based cultural leaders undertake residencies in the UK during the 2012-13 fiscal year.

All applications need to be in by 15 March.

Let’s Interplay!
(Crafting Your Skills)
Tue 5 Feb, 6-8.30pm

This workshop will introduce simple yet powerful forms for creating stories in the moment by taking the stuff of our life experiences and creating stories from it. Using the Interplay method – based on a series of incremental ‘forms’ that lead participants to movement, stories, silence, song, ease and amusement – Mairi Campbell (musician, singer and dancer) leads this session to inspire our stories and connection with others. Expect to laugh, play, connect and explore; discover your hidden resources and be surprised by what you can do! No experience needed – open to all.
