Art in the Windows

Children’s photography exhibition a resounding success!

The winning photographs in the Art in the Windows project have been  unveiled to the public in Cupar.

Pupils from the four primary and secondary schools in Cupar worked with a professional photographer on the ‘Art in the Windows’ project for two months, photographing themselves getting active around the town to inspire Cupar residents to get moving.

Every Day’s a Learning Day

‘Every Day’s a Learning Day’ consists of two books produced by Education Scotland for parents and carers of children aged between birth and 3 years, and 3 to 6 years. The aim is to help parents support their child’s development in the crucial areas of health and wellbeing, literacy and numeracy.

This resource highlights the many excellent learning opportunities that exist within daily experiences such as washing the dishes, preparing a meal or doing the shopping.

The books will be distributed through the Scottish Book Trust’s Bookbug programme.  Parents of new babies are set to receive a copy of the birth to 3 book from their health visitor.  The second book, which supports parents with children aged 3 to 6 years, will be issued when their child turns 3 and starts nursery.

To view the copies of ‘Every Day’s a Learning Day’ online, please visit the Education Scotland website where you can download both books in PDF format, including a Gaelic language version.

Europe and inter-generational solidarity

One aspect of this theme is the quality of the relationship and interaction between the different generations in society, and among the initiatives addressing this theme are two which will interest teachers..click here for more info.

News – Physical education

Each local authority will work in partnership with sportscotland and Education Scotland to agree an action plan which will help support delivery of their commitment.

The Scottish Government has announced that every school pupil in Scotland will benefit from at least two hours per week of physical education in primary school and two periods in S1 to S4 by 2014.

 Across the Generations Project

Thanks to special funding from the Creative Learning Network, these special showings also offer schools the chance to encourage families to read and share book experiences together. Our unique Across the Generations Project encourages children to invite an adult from their family to come with them to the event, helping you to encourage literacy and strengthen the bond between school and home.

To be eligible you simply need to…

Offer your children the chance to bring a parent, grandparent or other adult with them to the show,

either in the morning at 10am or in the evening at 7pm.

Submit your Booking Form and we will hold a place for each child with an additional free adult ticket allocated for each one,

you then send a letter home inviting adults to come with the class and confirm the adult numbers later.

Just asking the adults to come makes you eligible to apply for FREE Transport!

The film ticket costs £2.50 per child but all adults are FREE and if you are among the first 10 schools to apply we can provide coach travel from schools anywhere in FIFE to the Adam Smith Theatre in Kirkcaldy completely FREE.

Fife Diversity Week 12th to 18th March

Diversity week is an opportunity for Fife’s schools to be part of the celebration of Fife’s rich and diverse culture. Everyone can contribute to making this event a success and there are many different ways in which you can do this.

Diversity enriches our lives, consider how dull life would be if we all looked alike, thought alike, and acted alike! By learning to recognize our similarities and appreciate our differences, we can overcome prejudice and intolerance and work towards a better world.

If you would like to discuss any ideas you have / would like support in putting something together for diversity week, please contact:
