Successful Summer School

FCA&C recently held a summer school in collaboration with the Wilhelmina Barns-Graham Charitable Trust. Aimed at 5th and 6th year pupils who were hoping to go on shortly to art school, the 2 day event was experienced by 10 pupils from all over Fife. They met 3 practising artists who described their career path to date and also gave them some practical sketching exercises. It was so successful that we hope to make this an annual event. As one pupil commented on leaving “…opened my eyes as to what art college would be like and in fact really
got me excited about going.” You can’t get better than that and we wish them all a lot of success in their future.

See Us… tell our creative story

Over the next three months, people from across Scotland, and the world, are encouraged to get creative and submit photographs and stories that sum up what Scottish creativity means to us, today. Part of the Year of Creative Scotland 2012 celebrations, See Us is a collaboration between Creative Scotland, Blipfoto, Young Scot and The Scotsman.

All entries will be welcome, with the project aiming to include all areas of Scottish creativity – from high arts to everyday creative acts – whether it’s a scene from one of Scotland’s major festivals, a snapshot from a local event, or picture of your own creative life.  The idea is to tell a story of Scottish creativity in pictures.

Entries can be submitted through blipfoto.com/seeus and the site will remain open throughout the summer months.

Selected entries will then be curated for exhibition and publication in the autumn by a panel including leading author Ian Rankin, world renowned violinist Nicola Benedetti and the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning, Michael Russell.

After the success of the Scottish arm of U.Dance 2012, which included the Scottish Connections weekend at Anniesland College and the Scottish Platform Event at MacRobert, we are delighted to be developing and running a similar youth dance programme in Scotland over the next 2 years (up to 2014). You can find out more about the Scottish U.Dance 2012 programme here.

As we are branching out on our own we’re renaming the programme YDance Routes and need your help to make sure that it benefits the youth dance community and our dancers of tomorrow in the best ways possible. As such everyone is invited to join us for an afternoon of ideas and discussion on how we move forward:

YDance Routes, Moving Forward Consultancy

Wednesday 27 June at MacRobert in Stirling

1.30pm to 3.30pm

This meeting is open to anyone involved in the youth dance community so please share this with any other dance leaders and professionals you know. Please email Yvonne@ydance.org to let us know if you can attend.

Here are some of the ideas so far!

New Resource – Food for Thought: Exploring food and drink through Curriculum for Excellence

This resource looks at ideas for food as a context for interdisciplinary learning, and how Curriculum for Excellence supports learning about food and health.

The resource includes a poster and a supporting leaflet. The poster, in the form of a mind map, illustrates the different ways we engage and learn about food. The supporting leaflet provides further information on the resource and how to consider using it through well planned interdisciplinary learning.

Won’t make the Scottish Learning Festival???

Then go to Teachmeet- The Scottish Learning Fringe instead!

TeachMeet – teachers sharing ideas with teachers

What is TeachMeet Scottish Learning Fringe?

The Scottish Learning Festival is great. It’s a fantastic opportunity to find out about what’s going on, have your thinking stretched and network with colleagues from across the country, and beyond. However, it’s midweek. Many classroom teachers struggle to make it to SLF as they’re too busy teaching classes! And anyway, in Scotland a festival is not really a festival unless it has a fringe festival.
