We will be coming to the end of our new sounds this week in Jolly Phonics. Don’t worry, we will still be revisiting these, especially those tricky sounds in our daily learning.
Each week we will post a phonics support video to try at home.
This week we have chosen a blending video that helps us blend sounds into words.
Try saying the sounds until you hear the words at home:

Social Studies
We have been exploring the Experience and Outcome:
Early |
I am aware that different types of evidence can help me to find out about the world around me. SOC 0-15a |
By exploring my local community, I have discovered the different roles people play and how they can help. SOC 0-16a |
You will have seen an example of our learning in the Social Studies jotters that came home over the weekend.
As part of our learning we have explored maps and features of our local community. We made a map of the community surrounding the school in class and as a home link challenge made a representation of our own community around where we live.
Miss Dunn would like to say a huge thank you for all the hard work that everyone put in if choosing to complete the task. We used the class scanner and scanned in our projects. Please look below for some examples!
We had lots of fun learning the sound ‘j’ when we made jelly in our class.
We all got a chance to follow instructions to make our own jelly and then took it home for a yummy treat at the end of the day.
After making the jelly we wrote instructions in our writing jotters.

On Friday 9th September Primary 1 were presented with their very own Siddur.
Rabbi Rubin reminded us that we should treat our Siddur with respect and use it daily.
We were all very excited to see our family and visitors in the audience on our special day.
The Jewish Telegraph have some lovely photos of our presentation on their website:

We learned our first double sound today in Jolly Phonics!
A double sound has two letters that make one sound in a word.
We learned that when two vowels go walking together in a word the first one shouts its name. Listen to the song link below to find out more.
We then used our new sound ‘ai’ to blend some words.
Tips for phonics at Home:
Remember the difference between the sound a letter makes (e.g ssss) and the name e.g S (esss). Try to reinforce this at home in discussions.
Our Social Studies focus this term is:
By exploring my local community, I have discovered the
different roles people play and how they can help.
SOC 0-16a
We have decided to explore this learning through the context of Our Community.
We started our learning by investigating what the word community meant. Ian thought it meant home and Lori thought it meant the places you live in and around you. We came up with the definition “our community is the people and places around us that make a difference in our lives”.
To record our learning we wrote about our family in our jotters and made our house in a technology challenge.
This week we all demonstrated our independence by getting ready for P.E all by ourselves. We know to carefully fold our school uniform into our PE bags and leave our school shoes at our chair.
We have been learning how to control our gross body movements and use the space in the gym hall safely through exploring a poem all about a little red plane.
I am learning to move my body well, exploring how
to manage and control it and finding out how to use it
and share space.HWB 0-21a
Korin: “It is so fun to move all parts of your body!”
Stella: “We used our arms like the plane and moved fast and slow.”
