Incredible Ivrit!

Miss Dunn, Miss Lindsay and Mr Guetta were all hugely impressed with our recall of Ivrit vocabulary today.

We have been learning all about animal names in Hebrew, not only how to say them but also how to use our Hebrew letter knowledge to decode and read the words.

Mr Guetta and Miss Dunn challenged us in groups to match the Hebrew words to the English translation.

We were so speedy and accurate we tried it again in different groups to beat our previous time!

Remember to check out Mr Guetta’s Blog for updates on any vocabulary we learn in class.

Ner Li

Ner li, ner li, ner li dakik,

BaChanukah neri ‘adlik. BaChanukah neri ya’ir,

BaChanukah shiri ashir.

Ner li, ner li, ner li dakik,

BaChanukah neri ‘adlik. BaChanukah neri ya’ir,

BaChanukah shiri ashir.

Oh Chanukah, Oh Chanukah

Oh Chanukah, Oh Chanukah Come light the Menorah

Let’s have a party We’ll all dance the Horah

Gather around the table I’ll give you a treat

Sevivon to play with And latkes to eat

And while we are playing The candles are burning low

One for each night They shed a sweet light

To remind us of days long ago

Ivrit – Monday 21st November

Mr Guetta returned from his trip to Israel today. He had lots of exciting stories to share with us about his adventure to the schools and sights of Israel.

Mr Guetta let us interview him to find out some facts about Israel and the culture there.

Q :

Yisrael: “When I was in Israel it was very hot. Was it hot when you were there?

A:

Mr Guetta: “The temperature was just right. It was a lovely heat, before I went to visit the schools I went for a run and a swim. It is Winter in Israel just now too, but it does not get as cold as it does in Scotland. ”

Q:

Lucy MacInnes: “What foods did you eat there? Were they different to food here?”

A:

Mr Guetta: “That is a great question. Eating food is a social occasion in Israel so we have a little plate and lots of small dishes to chose from. There was lots of fresh fruit, vegetables and hummus.”

Q:

Alice: ” Is school different there because it is so far away?”

A:

Mr Guetta: “School is still as happy and fun as it is in Scotland. There are some differences. In Israel teachers wear their casual clothes and children do not wear a uniform. The children call the teachers by their first names!”
