Joe Wicks!

Joe Wicks The Body Coach has been streaming live workouts every day this week for boys and girls across the country. Calderwood Lodge have been taking part and Primary Two have completed each work out so far!  We have been doing press ups, squats, runnning, jumping jacks and many more tricky exercises. We have even been tweeted by Joe himself!

On Thursday the whole school took part together in the gym hall and we hope to make it onto Joe Wick’s twitter page again. If lots of children take part from one school Joe will come to the school and lead a workout for everyone. We are hoping we are lucky and are picked as we would all love to meet him!

Lori even brought in her Joe Wicks cook book from home that her mummy uses to cook healthy meals.

We are all going to be so fit and healthy after all our excercise this week!

Worm Cafè

In our latest Forest School session we were inspired by our recent visit from Eco Drama group. Through drama we learned all about worms, particularly what they like to eat!

At Forest School we decided to use the materials in the park and food sources for worms in the environment to create our very own Worm Cafè. Korin quite rightly pointed out the people have the Dandelion Cafè so let’s make a worm cafè! 🐛

Forest School Rota

Please find below the rota for parent helpers at Forest School sessions.

We would like to take the time to thank all of the parents and grandparents who have volunteered to help out at sessions, it is much appreciaited.

Teamwork!

Within our Forest School session on Friday Miss Dunn gave some groups a problem solving challenge! The groups had to make it from one side of the pitch (which we pretended was shark infested waters!) to the otjernusing only the stepping stones provided.

To start with we were all in a muddle but we soon got the hang of it by communicating our ideas with our classmates.

Miss Dunn then made it harder by taking away some of the stepping stones. That one required a bit more trial and error to complete!

Forest Schools 12 May 2017

Primary 1 were excited to hear that there are little robin chicks in the nursery garden. We tracked how quickly they have grown and Isaac was concerned there would not be enough room in the nest for all of them soon.

We decided to make our own larger nests for the robins using natural material from Forest Schools. We had some great justification for our answers.

Alice made hers using twigs as that would be familiar to the chicks because their current nest has twigs and sticks.Zac and Ian considered safety from predators by cameoflauging their nest with the surrounding environment.

We walked around everyone’s nests discussing the great qualities in them and practiced giving constructive feedback to our peers.

Forest Schools Term 3

Primary 1 will be continuing their Forest Schools sessions into Term 3.

Forest Schools Sessions will take place on the following dates:

We require one parent helper for the sessions to go ahead. Please indicate on the return slip in your child’s bag if you can support a session.

Mental Wellbeing – 29th November 2016

Today we had a mental wellbeing workshop called Moving to Calm with Dr Livingstone one of the school’s parents.

We used music and movement to explore our emotions and find strategies for calming and relaxing.

Joshua Sabba: “I liked using movments to be angry and cross, like big movmenets.”

Isaac Ram: “The claw hands were a way of being cross without hurting people.”

Phoebe Tomkins “We used smooth flowing movements with our arms”

Handwashing Help – Friday 18th November

As many of you will have heard, our class has been struck with a tummy bug.

To help contain the spread of this bug we watched a video and practised how to efectively wash our hands.

Dovid: “You need to use soap to kill the germs.”

Nina: “The germs are so little we can’t see them, but they are there, and they spread sicky bugs!”

Ian: “Doctors in a hospital wash their hands in the same way, becuase they have to be careful of germs too!”
