The boys and girls of Uplawmoor put on a wonderful performance during our Carols and Shortbread afternoon in December. Well done! Festive fun was had by everyone!

Intergenerational Quiz
Liam, Katie, Esme, Jason and Eve (who was a reserve) from Primary 7 competed in an intergenerational quiz at Carlibar Primary School. Local residents Dodo, Eric, Sheila and Heather, together with the pupils, were ‘TEAM UPLAWMOOR’. The aim of the quiz was to work together to teach each other various activities such as texting, playing the Wii, dominoes and ‘hanging the washing’.
Team Uplawmoor came second and won a medal each. We spent weeks preparing for the quiz and we all had a great time together and made lots of new friends. By Liam P7
Be Bright Day
On Wednesday 20th November we are dressing BRIGHT to highlight the importance of road safety. Pupils are encouraged to wear colourful clothes so they can be seen easily on the pavement and the driveway. There are lots of activities planned for the whole school which have been organised by the JRSO including a song competition!
We’ll be seeing you then!

Children in Need day!
On Friday 15th November, we had lots of fun raising money for Children in Need. We paid £1 to wear our own clothes and some of us wore our pyjamas! We did a Pudsey bear hunt in the gym hall and outdoors which was great fun. I found Pudsey so I got some sweets! At playtime I bought a Pudsey biscuit for 35p, it was tasty!

Hockey Festival
Primary 5 pupils Amy, Emma, Emily, Megan-Jane, Lauren and Dean had a super time at the Hockey Festival at Eastwood High School on Monday.
“We were put into teams and some of us were split up. I didn’t know anyone in my team so I quickly made new friends from Mearns Primary and Neilston. They were called Evie, Holly, Lucy and Jodie.” Lauren
“We played hockey games and it was hard to get the ball because everybody went for it at the same time! The ball was like a bigger version of a golf ball. It was hard and coloured yellow, orange and white.” Emma
“The weather was sunny but really cold! It didn’t rain but the hockey pitch was wet so when we sat down to listen to instructions we got wet bottoms!” Dean
“There were 6 courses. There were team games, hurdles, dribbling and passing the ball.” Amy
“We spent 10 or 15 minutes at each course and we had time to spare so we manage to squeeze in one more course. I did the hurdles!” Megan
“There were 9 teams and we all had a different coloured vest. I had a green vest and I already knew a girl from gymnastics in my team. Her name is Lauren.” Emily
Children In Need
Children in Need is a UK charity which helps to change the lives of disabled and young children in the UK. To help raise money for this charity, the Pupil Council have decided to have a Pudsey fundraising day on Friday 15th November. If you bring £1 to school, you can dress as you please (so you don’t have to wear school uniform!) There will be various activities on the day including a ‘Pudsey hunt’. We are also selling Pudsey biscuits, so if you would like to buy one, please bring 35p.
We look forward to seeing you all on Friday to help raise money for a wonderful cause.

P4/5 Learning Assembly – The Rainforest
Thank you to all the parents and family who were able to attend our Rainforest assembly last Thursday. You all made it very special for us and although we were nervous, we enjoyed performing for you and showing you all our hard work. Here are some pictures of us presenting our puppets to the class. What rainforest animals can you spot?
What a Halloween Party!
The Halloween party was really fun and everyone looked great! We all enjoyed it as there was so much to do! We had dangling doughnuts, dooking for apples, a video messaging area and a spooky room! It was too spooky for some!

Fire Safety Talk
The fire service came to talk to P6/7 about bonfire night and the dangers of different fireworks. They showed us some gruesome photos of people who had some accidents using fireworks.
As tonight is bonfire night, the firemen recommend you go to an organised display. This is the safest way to enjoy yourselves and the fireworks will be spectacular!
Keep safe and warm!

P5-7 Trip to Bibleworld
P5-7 visited Bibleworld on Thursday with Mrs Little. It was like a trailor and inside there was a library, a museum and comfy seats where you could watch a video and listen through headphones.
Anna, the lady who owns it, showed us a cartoon video about Jesus’ life, and how he helped others. There were lots of activities including clay modelling, a research post and an ICT station with headphones.
It was a fantastic day for us and we would like to visit again.

Scottish SPCA
The SPCA came to each class in the school and talked to us about how they help animals in Scotland. We completed some animal and habitat matching activities, watched some video clips and discussed how we can help Scottish wildlife.

Mrs Gray’s retirement
Mrs Gray has retired after working in Uplawmoor Primary for 18 short years. The whole school put on a show which celebrated Mrs Gray’s retirement. We sang some songs and the P7s shared their favourite memories of Mrs Gray. The instrumentalists played some of Mrs Gray’s favourite music, including Katie’s version of Titanic. To top it off, the Glee club performed ‘Time of your Life’ as a tribute to her imaginary boyfriend (Patrick Swayze
Mrs Gray gave P6/7 and P4/5 a tub of chocolates and P1-3 received a box of Haribos. We had a wonderful afternoon and we hope Mrs Gray and her family enjoyed themselves.
We will miss you Mrs Gray! By Luca P7
Committees
The boys and girls of Uplawmoor Primary School are all members of a school committee. Each committee meet on a Tuesday where children have the opportunity to work with a member of staff to discuss ideas linking to their committee and plan upcoming events. This is a wonderful opportunity for the children to raise the profile of the school and lead us towards excellence.
The website committee are in charge of keeping our website up to date so please come and speak to Ruby, Jack (M), Jack (W), Christopher, Dylan, Rob or Luca if your class are doing something exciting and we will happily put it on the website!
School Lunchtime clubs
Our lunchtime clubs are busy as usual! The children have been busy at badminton club on a Monday and Wednesday lunchtime with Mrs Kolasinsky. Gardening club is taking place every playtime and lunchtime with Mrs Waters. The mini kickers team are here on a Tuesday after school for Primary 1-3. Glee club will be starting next week and I am looking for song suggestions. Unfortunately my ankle is still not 100%, so I hope to start our street dance club in the new term (even if it does mean a bit of chair dancing from me!) Mrs Tait will also be starting a mini-movie club next week with Primary 4/5 to prepare video footage for their class assembly. Busy busy busy!
Harvest with P1/2
Primary 1/2 have been busy harvesting the vegetables that have been growing in our garden.
On Monday 9th September, the class visited Caldwell Church to learn more about harvest. Mr Donaldson explained how the harvest festival is celebrated in Uplawmoor.
