Star Pupils and Achievements

We are proud to bring you our Star Pupils for this week.  Each Friday at assembly, every class teacher chooses her Star Pupil for the week.  This could be for being a responsible citizen, a successful learner, an effective contributor or a confident individual.

We also like to recognise special achievements amongst our talented and skilled pupils.  This week Josh and Lauren (P6) shared their special acheivements.  Josh showed us his numerous rosettes which he won for his prized cattle and sheep and Lauren for her superb swimming talents.

Well done to them both and all of our Star Pupils for this week!

SOLD! At The Farmer’s Market

The gardening committee were busy this morning preparing the vegetables and plants to be sold at the Farmer’s Market which took place today at the church.  They sold potatoes, runner beans, onions, parsley, cabbage, baby aloe vera plants, Christmas cactus and spider plants.

Dean, Josh, Abigale, McKenzie, Miss Dawson-Bowman and Mrs Waters all went to the church and sold almost everything!  The gardening committee made a grand total of £65 pounds which will be used to buy new gardening equipment, seeds, bulbs and plants for future gardening opporutnities.

Well done to the Gardening Committee!

Junior Road Safety Officers

Rob and Erin have been selected to represent our school as our JRSO.  They will be working closely with Mrs Martin to ensure we stay safe when walking along the driveway after school.

Please remember to walk within the yellow line as there might be cars driving alongside you.  Rob and Erin will also ensure there are no cars blocking the entrance to the driveway to make sure everybody can walk to and from school safely.

Netball – P7 Pupils vs Staff

We had loads of fun today during our netball competition – ‘Staff versus P7s’

Mr Reid, Mr Philips, Mr Reilly, Mrs Crawford and the teachers fought a hard battle against the Primary 7 leavers.  A big thanks to the rest of the school for cheering us on (well… I’m not sure how many cheers we heard for the staff?)

All the Primary 7 pupils had to have a lie down afterwards as they had a tougher match than they first expected!  All the staff, however, went for a jog round the park. Ha ha!

Great fun had by all.

Sports Day!

Well the sun DID shine for us on Friday!  We had a superb day at our annual Sports Day tournament and the children, staff and parents all got their running shoes on (or flip flops) and got involved with the variety of sporting activities on offer.  What a great way to finish an amazing year!

‘Happy Ever After’

The boys and girls are getting extremely excited about our school show which will be taking place on Thursday at 1.45pm and 7pm.  Zoe (and Matt) have given up so much of their precious time this month to rehearse with the children and prepare the costumes, props and staging for our big performance.  We have also received lots of help from Mrs Kee, Mrs McQuaker, Mrs Black and Mrs Sanders who have been busy sewing and stitching this week.

The staff and pupils of Uplawmoor Primary really appreciate the hard work and effort which has gone into creating such a unique and special end of term show.

Gardening Committee

The gardening committee have been busy with Mrs Waters growing peas, courgettes, potatoes, chives and onions. Our grounds are looking superb and everybody in the gardening committee (and other helpers) have worked really hard to produce such wonderful vegetables and herbs.

We are so proud of Jason Robb in P7, who won a highly commended award for ‘The Young School Gardener 2014’  from the Royal Horticultural Society.  We are very lucky to have such a skilled gardener in our school!  Well done Jason!

Art Exhibition

A quick reminder that the Uplawmoor art exhibition starts in the Mure Hall on 8th April – 21st April.  Please go along to look at the work of Ana Genoves, Rachel Lowther, Georgina Starr and Kerry Stewart.

As you know our P4-7 pupils took part in a ‘Living Sculputres’ session with Rachel which will be on display at the exhibition.

Netball Competition

A huge well done to Uplawmoor Primary School’s netball team who came 1st place at last night’s Netball competition at Eastwood High School’s sports centre.

“We’ve been working hard at lunchtime with Mrs Dobbins to ensure we were at our best.  We won each game we played in and we are looking forward to representing our school at the next event on the 1st April 2014”.

The Netball Team:
Shannon, Erin, Niamh, Bobbi, Luca, Morgan, Eve, Glen, Amy.

A Braw Burns Celebration

The boys and girls of Uplawmoor did us (and Robert Burns) proud today.  The audience were well and truly entertained by our wonderful musicians, singers, actors and dancers.  A huge well done to P4-7 for their superb (and brave) poetry recitals, not to mention Ashley, Rob, Shannon, Naimh, Eve and Morgan who sang for the judges.

Eco Schools

We were recently visited by Mrs Anne Black of the Keep Scotland Beautiful Eco School’s Team.   Mrs Black came to assess whether or not we should keep our Green Flag status.  The day was led by member of our Eco-Committe, two representatives of our Garden Committte and one of our JRSOs.  They had a very informative presentation, a tour of the school and school grounds and answered questions about our Eco Action Plan.  Mrs Black was very impressed by all of the pupils she had spoken to and commented that she was made to feel very welcome by everyone at Uplawmoor.

We are thrilled to hear that we are indeed an Eco Friendly school and that our shabby flag willl be replaced by a new one.  Well done everybody!  What a fantastic achievement!

My Region – My Traditions

A huge congratulations to Primary 2/3 on entering a drawing competition run by the European Alliance.  The theme of the competition was ‘My Region, My Traditions’ and Councillor Buchannan nominated Uplawmoor Primary to take part.  Only 7 schools across Europe entered.  The artwork was displayed within the ‘Committee of the Regions’ in Brussels.  Our prize winners were:

1st place, Scott King

2nd place Mollie Long

3rd place Abigale Grierson.

Councillor Buchannan came to award the pupils with their prizes.  Scott, Mollie and Abigale received a set of beautiful coloured pencils and the class won a Nikon camera for the school.  Well done!
