Primary 6/7 have been taking control of their own learning and investigating what happens when you mix different liquids.
We learned about the weight of water and oil and how salt reacts to different liquids.
Well done to the boys and girls of Primary 1, 2 and 3 on their wonderful Sukkot Assembly. ‘Sukkot’, is the name of the festival of booths. Sukkot were the huts in which the Jewish people lived during their years in the desert after they left Egypt and before they arrived in the Promised Land (Israel). Sukkot is celebrated today and the boys and girls showed us their very own Sukkot which they made in class.
“The pupils of Uplawmoor Primary were learning different strategies to help them relax. Sometimes we all feel a little stressed and Vicki helped us focus on deep and concentrated breathing which in turn helped us feel calm and relaxed. We played some fun games which helped us manage our emotions and we even did some massage on our friends.
“I liked thinking about lying on the beach because I was really relaxed” Mary P6
“I liked getting a calming stone at the end” Anonymous
“I liked massaging my own head because it relaxed me” Dean P7
“It tickled when Amy wrote on my back with her finger” Lauren P7
On Friday18th September Uplawmoor Primary School were presented the “Gold School Sport Award” for 2015-2017 By Kenny Brown – partnership manager at sportscotland. Anthony McReavy, the recently appointed chief executive for East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure and Gordon Phillips, Active schools Coordinator for the Eastwood cluster were also in attendance to see the school presented with its award.
The Gold School Sport Award is recognition of the school’s achievements in putting quality physical education and school sport at the heart of a school’s planning, practice and ethos.
The Gold Award also highlights that Uplawmoor Primary School has shown excellent practice across the core areas of the Award and demonstrated an on-going commitment to increase young people’s opportunities and engagement in quality physical education, school sport and leadership, and provide clear pathways to life-long participation in sport.
Fiona Mckay, Head Teacher at Uplawmoor Primary School, said: “We are absolutely delighted with our sportscotland Gold Sport Award. Our staff work incredibly hard to promote sport both as part of the curriculum and as extra-curricular activity too. We know how important physical activity is and we put a real effort into making sure it is an important part of the school day. Our children enjoy the activities and are so enthusiastic and their parents’ support is really important in encouraging them to attend our after school clubs. We feel we are playing our part setting them on the road to healthy, active lives.”
For the past couple of weeks the Primary 7 children have been partnered with some of our older friends. Lauren, Dean and Josh have been helping with the Mario kart on the Wii in our classroom , Emma and Emily have been practising hanging out the washing in out gym hall and Annabelle and I have been dancing! The ladies taught us how to dance the waltz and for our older friends, we have been teaching them how to dance the Gangham style!
We have only got a few more practises and then we figure out who is going to be in the team. We will keep you up to date on chosen team!

Today the Primary 7s visited Arthurlie Park, to take part in ‘Safety in the Park’. There were different activities to do such as the dangers of alcohol. We wore goggles to look like we were drunk, it was good fun but it made me realise how dizzy you can feel. Also, there was an area with a car crash and we were investigators and we had to figure out whose fault it was between the cyclist and the driver. The other activities were about how to be safe in the park if you see something that is concerning.
Welcome back everybody! We hope you all had a wonderful summer and managed to find some sunshine somewhere.. It is so lovely to see lots of happy, smiling (and some very tanned) faces today.
All the boys and girls looked very smart in their uniforms and what a pleasure it is to be back in our busy classrooms at Uplawmoor Primary School. We are all looking forward to another successful year filled with fun, hard work and lots of achievements.
We will, as ever, be keeping you all updated on the website so watch this space!
I would like to say goodbye and good luck to Innes, Rob, Tiana, Shannon, Erin and Niamh. You will all be missed by the staff and pupils of Uplawmoor Primary School. Also, can we take this opportunity to thank the PSA for our lovely meal last night. We had a super night and it was a lovely send off for our Primary 7 pupils.
Have a wonderful summer!
No school bags should be brought to school on Wednesday.
There will be no school lunch or packed lunch on Wednesday. A snack may be brought to school for the morning interval. All Primary 7 pupils should ensure their lunch accounts are sitting at zero as credit cannot be transferred to high school accounts.
The summer church service will take place on Wednesday at 12 noon until 1pm. School will close at 1pm. Pupils may be collected from the church. Please note it is important that pupils are picked up at 1pm as we ask that if you are unable to collect them at this time, you put suitable arrangements into place.
We would like to take this opportunity to remind you of our school uniform which consists of:
Black Blazer with school badge
Grey skirt or trousers (not black)
Red cardigan or jumper
White shirt or blouse/school polo shirt on gym days
Grey and red striped school tie
Black shoes
For PE pupils should wear a white t-shirt or school polo shirt and black shorts. It would be useful if pupils had a pair of trainers which children can wear for gym outdoors or at the tennis courts.
Thank you for your continued support.
We have had an energetic week this week and we have all had the opportunity to try out a variety of sports. Yesterday we played golf at Caldwell and took part in some Curling in the hall. Tesco came to see us in the afternoon and kindly brought some exotic fruits for us to taste.
We would all like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Crawford for organising such a fantastic week for the staff and children. Also, a huge thank you to all the experts who came to our school (or allowed us to come to them).
We are continuing to try out new and exciting sports this week. We’ve had a go at fencing and pilates and we are about to go outside into the glorious sunshine and do some bootcamp training with Tiana’s sister, Courtney. Golf and curling is on the agenda for tomorrow and tai chi on Friday. We have our Sports Day on Friday afternoon and the weather is looking good! Please remember to provide your child with a hat and sun cream as we will be outside for most of the day.
We hope to see you then!
