After School Basketball Club P1-3

ballThere is now a new basketball club after school which started on Monday for Primary 1-3.  They passed the ball to each other for shooting practise. They also learnt to dribble around the gym hall.

I enjoyed it because I learned more about basketball than I did before. I look forward to next week!  Eilidh P2

I enjoyed it because me and Daniel won all the games. I would definitely go again!  Zara P3

P2/3 Oreo Fun – Phases of Moon

IMG_8420IMG_8418IMG_8415IMG_8421P2/3 have been busy learning about the moon in Science.  The class were lucky enough to feast on Oreo cookies which helped them visualise the different phases of the moon.

If it was a full moon, we ate the lid of the cookie which showed all the cream which was the full moon.

If it was a half moon, we licked off half of the creamy bit.

Then we ate lots of the cream and left oval shapes which showed the waxing and waning crescent.

It was very exciting because at the end we got to eat full oreos!

If you are unable to come along and help your child to choose a book there are two other options.

  • Each child will receive a leaflet detailing the books available at the Fair. You can look through the selection of books in the leaflet, make your choice, then complete the order form and return to the school with payment. Your child will then receive the books you have chosen.
  • You can send money to school (cheques should be payable to the school) and your child’s teacher can assist in an appropriate choice of books.  If you wish to choose this option, please go to the ‘Diary/Dates for your Diary’ tab and complete the tear off slip and return it to school.

Our school will benefit from all sales. The funds generated will allow us to provide books for the children and/or teachers’ resources.

P6/7 Citizens of the Month

IMG_8377A big well done to Ashley and Matthew who received equal amount of votes to earn themselves Citizen of the Month for December 2015.

This highlights the high level of citizenship displayed by Matthew and Ashley to the staff and pupils of the Uplawmoor.  Furthermore, this is the second time Ashley has achieved this award so well done!

Welcome Back to all the Pupils and Staff!

DSCN2068Firstly, we would like to wish all the friends and family of Uplawmoor Primary a Happy New Year. The boys and girls are ready and raring to get back to work and start another exciting term at Uplawmoor Primary School.

As always, there is lots going on and the children will be writing their own class blogs which you will be able to find under the ‘Pupils’ tab on the landing page of our website.  This is where you can read about what your child is learning across the curriculum.

The website committee will keep you updated with events and latest news and remember, you can download any letters which have been sent home in the ‘Dates for Diary/Letters Home’ tab, also found on the landing page.

House Sleigh Challenge

WinnersThe boys and girls were challenged to build a sleigh for Santa out of junk modelling.  Each house had 2 bags of recycled objects and a box of crafts to make the most creative vehicle for Santa to travel in.

The children worked collaboratively and created four absolutely stunning sleighs.    The winning house was Libo with 46 points out of a possible 50 for their ‘Rudolph Roller’ design (and a big well done to Ollie and Zoe who played Donner and Blitzen sprinkling reindeer dust en route).    Well done to everybody involved!

P3 Make Human Bar Graphs in Maths

P3 have been working hard in maths and learning all about data handling.  They are learning to gather information and create graphs and charts.  As you can see from the picture, they created their very own human bar graph after making a frequency table on favourite school meals. Wow!  What fantastic learning Primary 3!Maths

Scottish SPCA Visit

SSPCASally from the Scottish SPCA came to talk to the boys and girls today about the dangers of feeding your pets chocolate and sweets and Christmas time.  The foods are poisonous to your pets and should NOT be given to your pets as a treat.

Sally talked to us about looking after a pet and how it is not ideal to give someone an animal as a present at Christmas.  There are many unwanted animals who end up at the SSPCA as their owners realise they might not have the time or energy to look after them once the excitement of Christmas is over.  Pets are hard work and require a lot of time, effort and money if they are to be looked after properly.  Sally also spoke to us about what we should do if we see a animal in distress.  We should NOT attempt to save an animal ourselves.  Instead, we should leave it alone and tell an adult as soon as possible.  The adult should then call 03000 999 999 and a trained SSPCA officer will come and deal with the animal.

Micro-Tyco-484x289-484x289Mrs Orr received a letter from the Micro-Tyrco organisers regarding the money which was raised by the pupils, staff and friends of Uplawmoor.  The money has gone towards supporting two ladies from Kenya and the Philippines start up their own business.    Both ladies are in the food industry and are using the money to buy stock and supplies which will allow them to grow and develop their own business.  For further information, please click the link below to find out about the business plans for Janneth and  Mwanamkasi.

Intergenerational Quiz Final

P6/7 and the ladies of Uplawmoor came a very respectable joint second at the final held at Largs yesterday. The team did a wonderful ‘Superman’ dance (the highlight being the ladies wearing their underpants over their trousers) and a big well done to Alison who earned a record time in the Super Mario Wii round. Emily did a superb job at ‘hingin’ the washing’ and overall the team gained 57 points.

Well done team Uplawmoor and thank you to Jenni (who unfortunately couldn’t attend), Sheila, Jan, Myra and Alison. image image image image
