Headphones

The school has a great number of digital devices for use in the classroom. This gives pupils the opportunity to access a variety of programmes to reinforce and enhance their learning across the curriculum.

Many of these programmes require pupils to listen to instructions so the children need headphones to fully benefit from the experience. Ideally, each child would have headphones in their tray that they could use with the laptops. Although the school has a supply of headphones, there is not enough for every child to have their own individual set. Therefore, if you have spare headphones at home that your child can use in school, we would appreciate it if they could bring them in to school. The headphones would only be used by your child and would be kept in their tray.

Many thanks in advance for your cooperation.

International Day – Can you help?

The International Day will take place at 2-4.30 on Sunday 29th April.

Please help if you can by completing the form in the link below. It is intended to be a fun, family day for everyone so a good turnout of helpers, even for a little while, means everyone can enjoy the day.

Please tick ALL the times you can help – though we will only need you for one slot each (excluding set up / clear up which will be all hands on deck!)

None of the jobs are onerous and it should be a great day!

Help St Joseph’s Primary with their school garden

St Joseph’s Primary are in the process of setting up a school garden using some funding we received from the Food for Thought Project.  Our children have been very ambitious in their ideas and we realised we would require some more help to enable them to realise their dreams.

Young Enterprise Scotland contacted us with a fantastic opportunity which would be beneficial for both their Social Enterprise and St Joseph’s School.

They have applied for some money, from the Aviva Community Fund, to give young people on their Landscaping Pathway programmes the opportunity to gain valuable work experience by creating new community gardens across East Renfrewshire. This will give disengaged young people the opportunity to build their skills and confidence by making practical improvements to their local communities. They have offered to include the garden at St Joseph’s Primary School as one of these, meaning that they could use some of the funding received to develop an Eco garden area in our playground.

To maximise the chances of receiving the funding Young Enterprise Scotland must receive as many online votes as possible to become finalists.

We would really appreciate your help in maximising our chances.

Please find below the link for voting.

https://community-fund.aviva.co.uk/voting/project/view/16-2731

This link should take you directly to the project, however if it doesn’t you can search for the Young Enterprise Scotland project.

To vote you need to register for an account (only takes a couple of minutes) and then you can vote up to 10 times.

The deadline for voting is the 18th November.

Kind regards

St Joseph’s Parish Travelling Nativity – Something new for the children this Christmas?

As Mary and Joseph travelled to Bethlehem they relied on the kindness of friends, family and strangers. Could your family give them shelter for a night this Advent? You would receive figures of Mary, Joseph and the donkey into your home from another family in the parish one evening in Advent. The visiting family lead a (very) short child friendly liturgy and you as the host family provide light refreshments. The following evening you travel with the figures to another home in the Parish and repeat. In this way the figures of Mary and Joseph will travel through around 20 homes in our parish community on their way to the Church on Christmas Eve. Full instructions on what to do and where to go will be provided. We anticipate the liturgy and refreshments lasting no more than 1 hour on each evening. This is a wonderful and practical way to help your children really think about the journey of Advent. If you might be interested in taking part, please contact Catriona James by email to parentsinprayer@stjosephs.co for an information sheet.

Light up the life of one child for one special day.

Glasgow’s Spirit of Christmas aims to support children throughout our communities suffering from financial hardship, or living in poverty, by providing Shoebox Gifts or Christmas Gift Bags filled with presents and treats, to children who would not otherwise receive any gifts or very much this Christmas.

Help us include every child at Christmas and give them a magical experience and cherished memories to last a lifetime.

Through Glasgow’s Spirit of Christmas, Our Lady of the Missions has been paired with Renfrewshire Women’s Aid to provide all the gifts they need for the children they support.

A number of parents have already pledged their support but there are still plenty more children needing our help.  I would like all the children to receive a gift package or shoe box containing a ‘big’ gift worth around £10 – £15 plus 4 or 5 smaller stocking type items: selection box, colouring book, ball, gloves, hat, toiletries for example.  You can either donate a new item, from a sweet treat to a toy, or a whole package containing several items.  All donations will be much appreciated.

If you wish to help:
