Congratulations to Michael N from P7b, was the first child to complete the run. He was 8th overall in the run and completed it in an impressive 23 minutes. Michael had his picture taken with the first three winners and was awarded with a SCIAF running top for his achievement. He also had a short interview with the SCIAF press person.

A big congratulations to everyone who took part in the run!

Appeal for Outdoor Resources

We are appealing for the help of parents and friends of Our Lady of the Missions to help us develop our outdoor learning provision and playground facilities. The aim is to create a learning environment that will allow our children to develop a range of important physical, social and academic skills whilst having fun outdoors. It will also enhance the playground experience for our pupils by providing them with a larger, more attractive social space to meet and play.

Please see attached document for further details.

RAMADAN

BEST WISHES to all in our school community and beyond who are observing the holy month of Ramadan, which started on 27 May.

We know it is a hugely important time for our Muslim families as they come together with family and friends in fasting, reflection, prayer and thinking of those less fortunate – extra charity is given in this month.

For those of us who are not familiar with Ramadan, Muslims believe that during Ramadan, the Qu’ran, the holy book of Islam, was revealed to mankind through the Prophet Muhammad. Many therefore devote extra time to the study of the Quran during this time. The end of Ramadan brings the festival Eid-ul-Fitr which will fall around 26 June.

Ramadan Mubarak to you all!

Used Blazer and Uniform Sale – Saturday 3rd June 2017 – 1.00pm – 3.30pm

 How does it work?
You donate, we sell!  Proceeds from the sale of blazers and all other uniform items go towards the school funds.  Larger blazers are particularly helpful.
How do I donate?
Blazers / uniform should be handed into the school office by the end of the school day on Friday 2nd June in good condition.
Blazers: please put a note in the top pocket of the blazer to confirm sex and approximate size.
Please also put each blazer in a separate bag.

What will things cost?
Most blazers sold for £10-£20 last year depending on condition. Clothing depended on quality and condition but was still a fraction of the usual cost – most items were £1 each. Some, if still in packets, will be sold for slightly more.  Leftover items will be kept for the next sale (if in v good condition) or donated for charity recycling. Thanks for your support!

What if I want to sell rather than donate?
If you would prefer to sell your blazer or other uniform items and keep the sale proceeds this can be done via the school’s PSA facebook page.

Primary 7 – June Events

Primary 7 – Month of June
After a very busy and successful year, our Primary 7 children will finish with a busy month in June.
Below is a list of planned activities. Please complete the attached sheet and return to school.
Thursday 15th June                   Day at the Movies
A day at the movies has been organised as a celebration for their final year at primary school. The children will come to school dressed as a character from a film or just be an extra (‘own clothes’).  There will be a charge of £3 to include lunch, popcorn and drinks.(money to be brought to school)
Monday 12th June                     Leavers’ Mass  St. Joseph’s Church 7pm
This is our Primary 7 ‘Graduation’ celebration. It is always a very moving occasion, especially for those families for whom this will be their last contact with Our Lady of the Missions.  We would ask that children wear full school uniform, shirt and tie.  I look forward to welcoming family and friends.  Children will be presented with a bible, funded by our P.S.A.  All family and friends are welcome to join us. Please indicate number on return slip.
Monday 19th June                     Leavers’ Ceilidh  6.45pm – 9.00pm       School Hall
The final celebration for our leavers is a ceilidh to be held in the school hall. The children will be piped into the hall and we ask all parents to come into the Mensa to form a Guard of Honour to welcome the children.  A finger buffet will be provided by the Parent Staff Association. At the end of the ceilidh, parents are invited to come into the hall where the children will sing their farewell songs!

Primary 7 Leavers’ Mass and Leavers’ Ceilidh

The children of Primary 7 will come together in St. Joseph’s Church, Clarkston, at 7pm on Monday 12th June, to celebrate their 7 years at Our Lady of the Missions before moving on to Secondary school. All families and friends are welcome.
