Open Morning

Class Staffa invited their parents into class for an open morning.

They watched the morning group and then the premier of their class assembly which they are going to perform to the whole school this afternoon.

It was a fun filled, interactive morning with the children sharing their skills and knowledge, empowering them to become successful learners and confident individuals.

Easter Service

Spring into Easter

Thank you to everyone who came to our Easter service this morning.

The singing was wonderful and we all loved the Easter song from the Family Centre children.

After the Easter story, all the children were invited by Rev Roddick to place a flower on the Easter cross.

Class Staffa looked splendid in their Easter bonnets which they decorated in class.

A huge thank you to Olivia and Amy who performed the welcome and school song using makaton.

Burns Assembly

Roberts Burns

Last Friday we celebrated Burns day with a whole school assembly which included some of  the children from the Family Centre.

All the classes participated by either, singing, exhibiting art work or reciting some poetry and our Reels on Wheels group performed 2 dances for us.

It was a great event, promoting confident individuals and successful learners.

Have a look at some of our photographs below.

Burns Assembly

Celebrating Burns Day

All classes have been learning about Robert Burns and to celebrate the end of this topic, they will showcase what they have learned during assembly tomorrow afteroon. This will take the form of art work, poetry, dance, song and a quiz.

If possible could pupils wear or bring in something tartan.

Have a look at some of our art work from last year.

Shoebox Appeal

Thank you

Class Iona presented at this weeks assembly. They have been organising the “ShoeBox” Appeal. A slideshow of photographs was shown to the primary department to highlight the work they have undertaken. One of the highlights of the assembly was Leah singing our school song, a great achievement for her.

They appealed for all the pupils to contribute items to support the shoebox appeal, i.e toothpaste, soap, brushes, pens etc. They were overwhelmed with donations and with the help from the parents of Class Iona we were able to make up and send 65 boxes to the appeal.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to our Christmas Shoe Box Appeal, with your contributions we also raised £100 to contribute towards the postage of the Christmas boxes.

Have a look at some of our photographs below showing class Iona collecting, packing and delivering the shoeboxes to Blythswood Care who will in turn post them off to deserving children and adults.

Whalsay Assembly

World War 2

Class Whalsay led our assembly this week.

They invited their parents and family into school to watch their showcase.

They had prepared a presentation highlighting some of their recent topic work, World War 2.

They used the internet to  research information, collect photographs and they also visited a museum looking at lots of artefacts from the war.

The highlight of their assembly was a small drama piece all about the war. They dressed up as a charachter, sang songs and performed a dance.

Miss O’Brien took some video footage and Miss McMillan and Mrs Reed will show it to the class next week and use this as evidence for their achievement folders.

Have a look at some of our photographs below.

Out and About Class Assembly

Out and About in the Community

Classes Skye and Lewis led our secondary assembly this afternoon and their theme was “Out and About in the Community”

Both classes have been working hard on their topics, visiting various places in the local community.

They have participated in visits to local shops and cafes, making choices, working as a group and exchanging money.

Independent travel has also been incorporated in our visits to Whitlee Wind Farm and the local recycling centre.

As part of their assembly a short movie was made to show the rest of the school the learning experiences that they have taken part in.

One of the pupils from Class Lewis introduced the assembly by reading out his introduction, a great achievement!

At the end of the assembly the pupils took part in a small discussion about the learning experiences that they saw in the DVD.

Well done to all the pupils from Classes Lewis and Skye.

Class Tiree are hosting this weeks assembly on Friday.

The class have decided to take part in the Mary’s Meals project which  helps provide daily life changing meals for over 600,000 hungry children.

At the assembly on Friday, Class Tiree have arranged for a Mary’s Meal speaker to come and share with us all about the project and how we as a school we can help.

We look forward to sharing this information with you at a later date.

Mary’s Meals

Celebrating St Andrew’s Day

All classes celebrated St Andrew’s Day today.

Classes Staffa and Iona invited their parents into class this morning for a special Scottish morning  of coffee and cakes and then  they all enjoyed some class activities.

This afternoon we all came together to celebrate at our St Andrew’s Day assembly.

We  also celebrated swimming achievements from some of the pupils as Mrs Clarke handed out certificates.

During assembly, Loch awe drew the raffle for the hamper they were raffling as part of the £10 challenge each class was set by Mrs Wallace.

We are delighted to say that the lucky winner was Mrs Kidd from Class Shetland.
