Disability Access Karting
Karting with a Conscience
Looking for something exciting to do, full of twists and turns then read below……..
With an exciting track full of twists and turns and the added advantage of no fume emissions and little noise, we are offering a karting experience that will suit all age groups and abilities!
Supported by the Glasgow Airport Flightpath Fund, our Karting with a Conscience programme ensures The Experience is accessible for everyone and offers:
- A dedicated Crew member to run the programme
- 4 tandem karts which will be driven by Experience Crew
- A specially designed ride on kart
- Hoists and specially designed changing areas
- An option to fit custom-made hand controls to single-driver karts for drivers with lower limb injuries or disabilities who are able to drive themselves
- Facilities for visitors with profound disabilities
- £10 per session

Holiday Weekend
A reminder that school will be closed on Thursday 5th &Friday 6th February for INSET training and for mid term holiday Monday 9th & Tuesday 10th February.
School reopens Wednesday 11th February.
Winter Cafe @ IMS
Classes Tiree & Whalsay have been busy preparing for their Winter Cafe.
They planned the menu, created invites, made a shoppping list, went shopping and then distributed jobs to specific people.
Today they have finally been able to put all their hard work into the event and demonstrate how successful and confident, they are in their learning.
They have invited the parents from both classes in for lunch and openened up the menu to all staff.

Today we welcomed visitors Eilean Gibson, Jackie Higgins and Douglas McLaren from Scottish Power Retail, Debt Division who came to the school to present a cheque to us. The staff had a raffle prior to the Christmas holidays and the money raised was donated to the school.
Our vistitors joined us for an Experiential Sensory Story “Stig of the Dump” from classes Arran and Cumbrae. After listening to the story our visitors and pupils were encouraged to take part in activities linked to the story and recyling.
We also welcomed 4 children from the Family Centre who are members of the Eco Committee members to take part in our story and activities.
Thank You to everyone for this very kind donation.
Our Head Boy, Michael was delighted to accept the donation on our behalf.
BBC Ten Pieces
Classes Whalsay, Tiree and Jura have been working on the BBC project, Ten Pieces to inspire young people to get creatvive with classical music.
They have been learning how to make music using parts of their body and simple sounds.
Over the past two months they have composed their own piece of music which was filmed today and will be uploaded to the BBC as part of the Ten Pieces Proms.
They also created a piece of art work as part of this project.
Look out for some budding musicians in the near future!
Burns Assembly
Roberts Burns
Last Friday we celebrated Burns day with a whole school assembly which included some of the children from the Family Centre.
All the classes participated by either, singing, exhibiting art work or reciting some poetry and our Reels on Wheels group performed 2 dances for us.
It was a great event, promoting confident individuals and successful learners.

Class Yell Show and Tell
Class Yell have recently been studying Robert Burns.
They researched facts about his life and devised a quiz for their parents to take part in for the “Show and Tell” which they had invited them to.
They created an invite for the parents and also invited Mrs Clark, our new Head Teacher.
They recited some poems and even sang “Auld Lang Syne”.
The students also prepared lunch for their visitors which included haggis, neeps, tatties and delicious Cranachan.

Stargaze Drama
Our Stargaze Drama group which takes place on Tuesday’s after school have been working hard on their new performance “Bugsy Malone”.
Look out for more details soon……..
Sensory Performance
Classes Arran and Cumbrae have been working on an interactive sensory story “Stig of the Dump”.
During art sessions they have created a large cave as part of their story and have incorporated lots of visual and sound effects using the iPad and mini projector.
They are performing this to some of the classes on Friday, and everyone looking forward to it.

Holocaust Remembrance Event
Look out for Isobel Mair School on reporting Scotland tonight, 6:30pm as part of the Holocaust Memorial Day to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the liberation of Auscwitz-Birkenau.

Today we had a special assembly with invited guests, to help us remember the Holocaust Memorial Day.
Thank you to everyone who took part in today’s event.
A special thank you to Carole Gillespie from Education Scotland who nominated the school for one of the 70 specially commissioned candles.
An extra special thank you to Xander Lovat for lighting the candle in memory of those who lost their lives.

Celebrating Burns Day 2015
All classes celebrated Robert Burns Day and on Friday at Assembly, each class including the Family Centre contributed by either singing, reciting a poem, contributing some art work and we even had a special dance from our Reels on Wheels group.

Keep the Memory Alive
Holocaust Memorial Day 2015
Isobel Mair School is delighted to have been selected as one of 70 locations in the UK to recieve a special memorial candle, designed by renowned sculptor Anish Kappor. This is to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the liberation of Auscwitz-Birkenau on 27th January 2015.
All classes will attend a candle lighting event in the Mod on Tuesday afternoon.
