Visit to old school site

Pupils from classes Orkney and Shetland  recently visited the site of the old school  with Morgan Sindall.
Our pupils are  working with the company, learning about how a building is constructed and will return in the new year to see the medical centre when it is almost finished.

Thank you also to Morgan Sindall who are presenting us with a flag pole for our Green Eco flag to go on.

Refugee Crisis – Can you help?

Refugee Crisis

You will all be aware of the plight of refugees mainly from Syria and the efforts many of you have already made to send aid to charitable or aid organisations to support families who now find themselves homeless and in great need of help.  Councillor Waters is
co-ordinating aid to those who are held in refugee camps in Calais and is organising a convoy which leaves on Thursday 29 October.

Items requested are:

  • small torches;
  • double AA batteries for torches
  • tea lights
  • jars and packets of ready to eat baby food
  • warm clothing for men and boys
  • waterproof clothing for men and boys
  • sturdy footwear for men, women and children (all sizes and all ages)
  • camping equipment in working order
  • basic toiletries (soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste etc)
  • transportable food (anything non-perishable, e.g. tinned food, rice etc).

If you would like to help, please send in any items to school by Thursday 22 Oct as items will be collected on Friday 23 Oct.

One Giant Leap – Supporting Development in Young People

of leaving school – 2016/17 leavers.

Open Forum Day

The Self Directed Support Forum

Are you interested in attending The Open Forum Day on Monday 19th October? 

The forum will include a presentation about what is happening with the ILF (Independent Living Fund) and PAMIS  are going to give a presentation about Communication passports on the iPad and other related IT skills in relation to care. SDSForumERThey will also be an opportunity for chat and questions afterwards.

We were recently the host school for the
International Conference; Embedding Health and Wellbeing Across the Curriculum.

Take a look at some of the comments below from the delegates who took part in the visit and came back to the conference feeling inspired by their experience.

  • They thoroughly enjoyed hearing about the publication ‘50 Things to do Outdoors Before you Leave Isobel Mair School’ which they commented was full of lovely ideas such as ‘laying a stick trail’ or ‘make a driftwood sculpture’.
    They were also delighted to be given a copy of the book to take away.
  • The tour of the school by your pupils was also mentioned as a highlight of the visit.
  • The aim of the visit was to allow the delegates to see ‘health and wellbeing in action’ and the visit to Isobel Mair certainly enabled them to do this most effectively.

Reminder that school is closed to pupils on Friday 9th Oct for
in-service day.
School closed for the October holiday from Monday12th – Friday 16th October.
School will reopen on Monday 19th October.

Sensory Garden

Do you have green fingers and some free time? The Parent Gardening Club are looking for more parent volunteers to help out in the sensory garden on 20th Oct at 10am.

If you can make it, either let the school know via the home/school diary or just turn up on the morning.

Transition Planning – Parent Engagement Seminar

This parent engagement session allows you to think about your children leaving school and what the next steps are in the process.

A reminder that the  session for parents of 4th, 5th and 6th year pupils will take place this evening, Tuesday 22nd September 2015, 6:00 – 8:30pm at Isobel Mair School.
