Sports Cup

Thank you to Alex O’Donnell and his family for the donation and sponsorship of the Sports Cup.

As this was his last year at Isobel Mair , Alex and his family wanted to do something for the school and came up with the idea of awarding the sports cup to the person with the most outstanding achievement each year.

This is a lovely idea and will certainly be an incentive for the pupils to win the cup for all their achievements.

Bronze Award

Congratulations to Sara, Alex, Sophie, Amy and Stuart who all received their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award at the weekend.

This was the 2nd overnight camping stay that they took part in and also managed to 2 field walks. They had to cook their meals al fresco and coped remarkably well with the millions of midges…….. some more attracted than others!

Many thanks to our buddies and the DofE staff, Amy and Jim who supported our young people with the many challenges  over the weekend.

Well done to our LochG Explorers we are all so proud of you.

Oliver

Thank you to everyone who came to support our young performers during Stargaze Drama performance of Oliver last night at Eastwood Theatre.

The pupils were so excited to perform to a full house and I’m sure you will agree every single on of them were superstars.

Miss Antelmi, the director and all the children have all worked really hard during the run up to the performance.
The staff all give up their time to volunteer and make sure it’s a success for the children. From helping them learn their lines or dances to sewing patches on costumes.

Have a look at some of the photographs below.

Limitless Workshop with RCS

Under the Sea………

Classes Lewis, Staffa and Jura have worked with staff including Zoe and Aby from the Lifelong Learning department at the Royal Conservatoire Scotland this week on a Limitless workshop called “Under the Sea”.

Today class Lewis came bouncing into the adventure as they
were so excited to be back working with the students again.

They were so engaged and immersed in the theme of the
project under the sea.

The pupils had the opportunity to experience dance, music
and drama under the umbrella of “Under the Sea”. The repetition
of the songs immediately caught the attention of all the pupils.

Exploring instruments and the sensory props were a
particular favourite but the intensive interaction and
joint communication that was taking place between the pupils
and the students was very emotive.
We had Fay playing along with the guitar, Alexander
singing, Matthew shaking the shakers, Robbi and Zakeeb joining in
with the parachute games and Christopher was our very
own camera man,  interested in the filming that was taking place.

Have a look at the photographs of Class Lewis’s session.

Parent Ground Force in Action

Recruiting New Volunteers

Tiree pupils helped some of our parent gardening volunteers in the sensory garden this morning.

All classes were asked to grow some plants and class Tiree grew peas in class and helped to look after them.

Today they transplanted them into the sensory garden. The pupils were all very excited to help Freya’s mum and Amber’s mum look after the sensory garden.

Intrepid Explorers

Some of our senior pupils headed out yesterday on a trial run of their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award challenge.
The real event takes place on Friday 17th June at Lochgoilhead.

They made their way to Eglington park in Ayrshire and set up camp.
Late afternoon they set off on an adventure, learning how to use maps to navigate their way to a central point.

All of these opportunities gives our young people an opportunity to be independent, self-sufficient and to be challenged as an individual.

Dinner was the highlight of the evening’s activities and pasta was the order of the day!
However we made the most amazing s’mores……….. and we had a great night telling stories and gazing up at the stars.

Let’s Fly with IMS……

Have a look at the short video highlighting the amazing experience that the pupils in classes Cumbrae and Arran had recently.

They were part of a group experiencing dance to movement through this Aerial experience with “EveryBODY Dancin” company
and Water Baby and Dancing Feet dance companies.

This amazing experience was made possible through Awards for all Lottery funding.

Dylan’s Ben Nevis Challenge

Dylan, one of our primary pupils from class Staffa is climbing Ben Nevis this weekend to raise funds for Scottish Autism. If you would like to sponsor him, you can donate via ‘just giving’ page https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/DylanMackenzie or send in a donation via the school diary.

Any support would be gratefully appreciated and I’m sure you will join us in wishing Dylan the very best for his challenge.

Superhero Assembly

Thank you to everyone for taking part in Superhero Day as  we helped raise some money for Clyde1 Cash for Kids.

Gemma Harley, one of our pupils made an amazing Superhero cake for her class and some of our classes took part in a quiz.

Miss Philo and class Orkney organised  a few super hero hampers to raffle and would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for the very kind donations.

At assembly our raffle winners were announced and also the best dressed costume. Congratulations to Rosie and her mum who decorated a Wonder Woman T-shirt.

We are delighted to let you know that we raised £

Class Jura also performed their version of the Gruffalo at the assembly. We are all so proud, what great achievements for them all.

Birthday Wishes

One of our senior pupils, Katherine Butler has recently celebrated her 18th Birthday.

She had a party for family and friends and instead of gifts, she asked everyone to donate some money for a chosen charity.

Katherine is delighted to tell everyone that she has donated the magnificent sum of £444 to charity.

Well done Katherine on your very generous gesture.

Senior Assembly

Classes Arran and Shetland worked together to present
their assembly to all the senior pupils this afternoon.

They presented a whistle-stop tour of Scotland with music and dance.

Another first for IMS…… the students from class Shetland
supported our Reels on Wheels group, to a great
cheer from everyone.

Class Arran presented Anthony with a thank you card for being a great peer mentor to his friends. Well done Anthony.
