Very productive morning at the allotment this morning with Irene from West College Scotland as part of the Grow Cook Eat Showcase and Horticulture placement.
After a brief discussion about seeds and how plants grow, the young people were keen to get to work.
This morning the group were sowing seeds, weeding parts of the raised beds and forking the soil.
The students all worked together sharing skills to help improve the allotment and gain new horticultural skills. This will allow them to present these skills as they progress and use them in a wider context of their learning – the end of year showcase and for lifelong learning.
The rain didn’t stop them working and eventually the sun came out as everyone worked together.
Congratulations to Amy, our sports captain who has gained a job as a Commissioner for the World Down Syndrome Congress, which takes place in Glasgow next summer.
Last session Shona worked with Mrs Johnson to create a story called “The Good Fairy”.
Using eye pointing and an E-tran frame Shona was able to choose the storyline and the characters she wanted in her story.
Have a look at some of the photos as the story progressed and the finished article can be viewed here. The Good Fairy

Class Shetland had the most amazing day out to celebrate the end of term at the Five Sisters Zoo in West Calder.
The sun was shining and the children had great fun taking time to explore and get used to the sensory experience, and meet some of the animals. This was a great fun achievement for some of the children.
