Primary 1 Registration

RegistrationEast Renfrewshire Council has set up one week when you should register your son or daughter at your local primary school. You must register your child at your catchment school, even if you intend to make a placing request to Calderwood Lodge.  If your son or daughter is aged five between 1st March 2016 and the end of February 2017 you should go along to your catchment primary school between 1.45pm and 3.30pm any day during the week of Monday 11th January to Friday 15th January 2016. You must take your son or daughter’s birth certificate, your child benefit statement or a bank statement showing your benefit award, a copy of your current council tax notice and mortgage statement or rental agreement.

Parents who would like a place at Calderwood Lodge should then complete a placing request form. These are available online on the East Renfrewshire website or from the council offices in Eastwood Park and Barrhead Main Street.  All placing request forms should be sent directly to East Renfrewshire Council. The school does not process the placing requests.

Chanukah Card Competition

Card

Staff and pupils at Calderwood Lodge were delighted to welcome Ken Macintosh MSP to Kabbalat Shabbat last week.  Every year Mr Macintosh invites our pupils to enter a Chanukah card competition.  The winning cards each year are printed and given out by Mr Macintosh as his official Chanukah cards.  Well done to our three prize winners Milla Marco (3rd place winner), Daniel Dotan (2nd place winner) and Gabby Rose (1st place winner).  Each of our winners was given a special prize along with some printed versions of their winning entries.  Mr Macintosh also left certificates for all pupils involved in this competition.  Well done to all pupils involved.

Chanukah Celebrations

ChoirThis month members of the Calderwood Lodge School Choir have been busy supporting Chanukah celebrations throughout the community.  The choir performed in the whole school Chanukah assembly in front of pupils, parents and member of Westacres Care Home.  They were then delighted to perform at the candle lighting ceremony held in school for the Glasgow Community Chanukah Celebration. They performed to over 450 guests, and some of them even managed a selfie with the First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon.  They then visited Jewish care to perform to a delighted group of older members from the community.  The children sang a selection of Chanukah songs and then spent time chatting with the group.  Many of the members commented on how well the children performed, how smart they looked in their uniforms, and how well they behaved.  It was lovely to hear that our visit was the highlight of Chanukah for many of the guests there.  Special mention must go to Gabby Rose who had staff and visitors (and school staff) in tears with her wonderful performance of ‘I Dreamed a Dream’.  A big well done and thank you to all members of the choir.

Stars in our schools

Star Day

Today the pupils at Calderwood Lodge celebrated the hard work by all of the support staff in the school.  The pupil council set up a presentation for the staff with banners, a star balloon, a star filled table, and lots of different drinks, cakes and sweets. The staff were presented with a certificate signed by all members of the pupil council, letting them know we all think ‘they are a star in our school’.  Members of the pupil council each said something about the hard work carried out by the pupil support assistants, kitchen staff, janitorial staff and office staff.

Book Fair

Book FairAt the Book Fair last week we were able to raise a total of £850.  As a result Scholastic have given the school £500 worth of vouchers to spend on books.  We will use these to add to the non-fiction section of our school library.  A big thank you must go to Primary 7 for giving  their free time to run the Book Fair.

Kosher Rap Competition

Our Primary 6 class are taking part in a Kosher Rap competition, where they have been tasked with recording their own rap video, based around something that they have been learning in school. This is a national competition, so we will be competing against other schools throughout the UK. If we are successful in winning this competition we will win the chance to record our song and film with a professional recording company. This is a great chance for our Primary 6 class, and also a great chance to raise the profile of our school and our Kodesh curriculum. Please take the time to visit www.kosherrap.uk to vote for our entry. If you click to watch the videos then you will see at the beginning of the video which one is the Calderwood Lodge entry. Please encourage as many of your friends and family as possible to do this, as some of the other schools that we are competing against have a much bigger role than ours, with more children and families to rely on for votes.

Sports Day

Sports dayWe are very quickly coming to the end of the summer term, with a few exciting events still remaining. On Monday 15th June Primary 1 to 7 will take part in our sports day.  This will take place at Muirend Pavilion and will begin at 1pm.  We look forward to seeing you there.  Nursery pupils will be doing their own sporting events within the nursery.

Health Week

keep-fit-and-stay-healthy

Next week in Calderwood Lodge sees us turn our attention to all things healthy as we participate in our very own Health Week.  This has been organised by Miss Dunn, and includes exciting activities such as zumba, yoga, handball, rugby, karate, hip hop taster sessions, alongside smoothie making, oral health sessions and visits from parents to talk about sporting achievements.  We look forward to what should be an exciting week of activities.  Please could you ensure that your child has a change of clothing for each day that is suitable for both outdoor and indoor wear.  We anticipate the children will be working up quite a sweat so would like to ask that you also ensure that they have a bottle of water with them each day to stay hydrated.

Nursery Graduation

Graduation

It’s hard to believe that in just a few shorts weeks the pupils from our nursery will be getting ready to finish this part of their school journey with us.  Our Nursery Graduation this year will be held on Wednesday 17th June, starting at 9.10am.  Please join with us to celebrate the achievements of our boys and girls in the nursery.
