Red Nose Day 2017

Staff and pupils at Calderwood Lodge had a fun time in the hall celebrating Red Nose Day by ‘Doing Something for Money’. Mrs Hughes and the Rights Respecting School Committee worked extremely hard to organise our whole school event. Pupils from the Nursery up to Primary 7 performed funny sketches and told jokes to make us all laugh, and we donated money to give to those who need it. Below is just a selection of some pictures of our pupils wearing their special Red Nose Day items.

School Holidays and Early Closure

School's out

Just a reminder to all parents and carers that Friday 15 April is the last day of school before our two week holiday.  The school will close at 2.30pm on this day instead of 3.30pm, and will re-open on Tuesday 3 May.  We hope everyone has a lovely break when it finally arrives.

P6 Bikeability Sessions

In term 3 children in P6 will take part in Bikeability sessions. The Bikeability programme is designed to give young people the skills and confidence to cycle, especially on roads. The programme also aims to sustain participation in cycling activity in Scotland.

This year Bikeability will take place on the following dates. Please ensure your child has their bike in school for each session.

Date Session
Tuesday 3rd May 2016 Bike Check and Bikeability session 1
Tuesday 10th May 2016 Bikeability session 2
Tuesday 17th May 2016 Bikeability session 3
Tuesday 24th May 2016 Bikeability session 4
Wednesday 1st June 2016 Bikeability session 5
Tuesday 7th June 2016 Bikeability session 6
Tuesday 14th June 2016 Assessment Date

We are unable to store bikes in between sessions on the school premises. In previous years bikes have been stored in between sessions in our nursery hall, however this space is now a shared space used by Primary 1 and nursery children. Please speak to a member of office staff should you have any queries about this.

If any parent wishes to volunteer to support a Bikeability session please contact Miss Dunn.

Muddy Mile

A group of pupils, parents and staff participated in the Muddy Mile run on Sunday 20th March.  This event was inspired by our running club and Mr Neillie, the parent who runs this afterschool activity.  The Muddy Mile was great fun.  We had a few lost shoes in the mud pits but the sun was shining and everyone was smiling at the finish line.  We hope to make this an annual event, so we will send out more information early next year to allow more parents and pupils to join us.

Chanukah Card Competition

Card

Staff and pupils at Calderwood Lodge were delighted to welcome Ken Macintosh MSP to Kabbalat Shabbat last week.  Every year Mr Macintosh invites our pupils to enter a Chanukah card competition.  The winning cards each year are printed and given out by Mr Macintosh as his official Chanukah cards.  Well done to our three prize winners Milla Marco (3rd place winner), Daniel Dotan (2nd place winner) and Gabby Rose (1st place winner).  Each of our winners was given a special prize along with some printed versions of their winning entries.  Mr Macintosh also left certificates for all pupils involved in this competition.  Well done to all pupils involved.

Book Fair

Book FairAt the Book Fair last week we were able to raise a total of £850.  As a result Scholastic have given the school £500 worth of vouchers to spend on books.  We will use these to add to the non-fiction section of our school library.  A big thank you must go to Primary 7 for giving  their free time to run the Book Fair.

Kosher Rap Competition

Our Primary 6 class are taking part in a Kosher Rap competition, where they have been tasked with recording their own rap video, based around something that they have been learning in school. This is a national competition, so we will be competing against other schools throughout the UK. If we are successful in winning this competition we will win the chance to record our song and film with a professional recording company. This is a great chance for our Primary 6 class, and also a great chance to raise the profile of our school and our Kodesh curriculum. Please take the time to visit www.kosherrap.uk to vote for our entry. If you click to watch the videos then you will see at the beginning of the video which one is the Calderwood Lodge entry. Please encourage as many of your friends and family as possible to do this, as some of the other schools that we are competing against have a much bigger role than ours, with more children and families to rely on for votes.
