The Transition class took advantage of the good weather on Earth Day to switch off our electricity and go out into the park. They were Confident Individuals when practicing setting up tents for DofE. It was a little breezy but everyone persevered and got the tent up. We took time to have our snack together in the outdoors
The Transition class were Responsible Citizens undertaking a training walk for their DofE Expedition section. The task was to do a timed walk to the Palace Theatre. Those that already hold a Bronze award helped those that were doing it for the first time. Some lovely weather helped us out. 17 minutes on the way there, 20 minutes to return (there must be more uphill on the way back!)
In cooking class this week the Transition class were Confident Individuals. They were trying out smoked sausage and deciding if they preferred it hot or cold. The first major task was removing the wrapper! Once we all had a safe go at that, we carefully sliced some and tasted it cold. After that the class very carefully fried some in a hot pan before trying again. Choices of likes/dislikes were shared. Some pupils liked it cold and some hot. We will have to keep this in mind when preparing our meals for DofE.
The second half of the Transition class had their chance to work on photo route cards this week. They were Successful Learners following last weeks’ photo route to find marked stones. They then set their own trail, learning how to make a route for others to follow. This is a skill that they will put in to practice when they compete their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expedition.
Some of the Transition class began learning about photographic routes for their DofE expedition this week. They were Successful Learners when they took some lettered stones out into the Kay Park and placed them for the rest of the class to find next week. They photographed their route and the places the stones are so that the class can easily find them. Watch this space!
The Transition class were Confident Individuals when focusing on their Polybat/Table Tennis skills this week. We took the lesson outdoors (before the wind came) and successfully transferred skills learned in polybat to table tennis. Some pupils even managed to score points against Mr Nicoll!
The Transition class continued their sports skills and focused on bat skills in poly bat. They were Confident Individuals. To help practice timing and swinging we also used the soft tennis set.
Massive congratulations to four of our Transition boys who recently received their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Last week they received their badges at the Council Awards Evening and this week Mrs Smallwood presented the boys with their certificates at the Secondary Assembly. Well done! They are all Confident Individuals.
