Summer!

It’s hard to believe that this will be our final blog for this year. I know these last few months have been hard and I am so proud of how the Bluebells class have coped.

🚨Important Information🚨

Please have a look at the school app where there is an End of Term photo slideshow of all of our best memories from this year! It really is not to be missed 🙂

Also, I will be coming round all of your houses on Wednesday to drop off a Willowbank Summer gift for you all.

This week, I thought I would set some fun Summer activities to get you excited for the holidays beginning on Friday! Remember these are all optional and only some ideas of how you and your family can have some fun in the sun.

Water Balloon Pinata                                             Use your washing line to peg water balloons and have fun to see who can burst them the fastest!

Balloon Toss                                                              You could be tossing the balloon at familiar words, letters or numbers.

Shadow Drawings                                                  Get some of your favourite toys, sit them in the sun on top of some paper and have fun drawing around their shadows. What toy makes the biggest shadow? What makes the smallest?

Finally, I wanted to leave you with some summer time messages from myself and the ladies in the Bluebells class. We are all counting down the days until we are back together in August.

Den Making!

In school, we would have been celebrating ‘Power Off Learn Outdoors’ day and Save the Childrens Den Day.

For your home learning challenge, I thought you could attempt to make a den. This can be completed indoors or outside and can be as challenging as you wish. I have attached some pictures below as ideas.

Once your den is completed, can you do some activities in it.

Can you:

  • Have a snack?
  • Read a story?
  • How many people or cuddly toys can you fit inside your den?

I would love to see some photos of your homemade dens, so if you wish, send them along to be added to our pupil blog.

Have fun 🙂

Ready Steady Cook!

This week, the Bluebells staff thought you could take part in some cooking challenges as a family. You can make all of these below or just choose 1. Even if you don’t want to eat it, you could help make it for someone in your household 🙂

We have all chosen a snack/dinner and taken a picture of it this week to show you some ideas. For the simple recipes, scroll down. Enjoy! 🍽

*Tortilla Pizza 🍕

Ingredients:
Tortilla wrap
Passata
Cheddar cheese

Method:
Grate cheese using a grater.
Pour passata on the middle of your tortilla wrap.
Spread the passata with the back of a spoon (all the way to the edges).
Sprinkle grated cheese on top.
Add any additional toppings of your own choice.
Put in a preheated oven at 180° for 8 mins.
Cut into slices and enjoy 🙂

*Chicken Fajitas 🌮

Ingredients:
Diced chicken breasts
Onion
Mixed peppers
Fajita seasoning
Tortilla wraps
Garlic salt (optional)

An adult will need to help you

Method:
Add some oil/vegetable oil spray to a wok.                                                                        Turn on the cooker to a high heat and add the chicken to the pan.
Fry the chicken, add the fajita seasoning and garlic salt.
Add some mixed peppers and a finely chopped onion and allow to soften.
Add some more fajita seasoning for flavour and reduce the heat.
Heat up the tortillas in the oven.
Spoon the fajita mix onto a wrap. Add some sauce if you would like.
Follow steps 1, 2 and 3 to wrap your tortilla.

Enjoy! 😊

* Toast and cheese 🧀

Get some bread and cheese and with adult help cut the cheese in to slices to put on top of your bread.

With adult help put the grill on and wait a few minutes for it to get warm.

When it’s warm enough put the bread with the cheese on it and you can look from a safe distance and watch for the cheese to bubble that’s when it’s ready 🙂

Safely take it from the grill and wait a few minutes for it to cool down. Then enjoy 😊

* Tattie Soup 🥣

Ingredients:

YOU WILL NEED ADULT HELP
Potatoes
Carrots
Onion
Leek
2 vegetable stock cubes
Split lentils
Salt
Water

Method:

Wash and peel carrots, chop them into small pieces.
Was and peel potatoes and chop them into medium sized chunks.
Wash and chop leek into small pieces.

Add all the veg to a pan and dissolve the stock cubes in boiling water then ad liquid to pan.
Add half a cup of split lentils.

Family Fun!

This week’s challenge involves lots of fun and interaction with our families 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Our focus is on social skills so I thought it would be fun to play lots of games.

In class, our favourites are Duck Duck Goose or What’s the time Mr Wolf? However there are lots of games you can play including Tig and Hide and Seek.

These can take place in your house or in the garden and involve no resources.

Alternatively you can have some competitive challenges like lego tower building (set a timer and see who can build the tallest tower in that time), a game of limbo or piggy in the middle.

I’d love to see some photographs of you enjoying some family fun and games so feel free to send them for our blog 📸

Have fun! 😃

Digital Learning Week!

To celebrate Digital Learning Week, I thought that I would set a series of tasks for you to complete and you could take photographic evidence (on a phone camera or ipad).

Over the last few days myself, Mrs Vernon, Mrs McInally and Miss Jones have all taken part. Here are our photographs below.

  1. Can you take a picture of yourself doing some form of exercise?

  1. Can you take a picture of yourself reading a book/magazine?

  1. Can you take a picture of a drawing/colouring/arts and craft activity you have completed?

  1. Can you take a picture of a meal/snack you helped make?

  1. Finally, after all of your hard work, reward yourself with a PJ day and take a picture of you in your PJs.

Remember all of these activities are optional and just ideas but it would be lovely to see some photographs of you taking part. Take care everyone 🙂

Number fun!

This weeks task involves using our numeracy skills. 🔢

Activity 1 👀
Can you go on a hunt around your house and find the following things…

  • 1 TV
  • 2 clocks
  • 3 pillows
  • 4 cuddly toys
  • 5 books
  • 6 doors
  • 7 spoons
  • 8 lego/building bricks
  • 9 socks
  • 10 coins

Activity 2 👀

This task involves you going around the rooms in your house and counting the total number of items. In your house, can you count how many….

Doors you have?

Windows you have?

Tables?

Beds?

Mirrors?

Sinks?

🤔 What do you have the most of? This is your biggest number.

🤔 What do you have the least of? This is your smallest number.

Activity 3 🚶‍♂️👣🚶‍♀️

During one of your daily walks, can you try and spot the numbers 1-20 in your local environment? These might be door numbers, road signs, times shown for collections on post boxes, car registration plates etc.

Remember all of these activities are optional and can involve you working together with your siblings and/or parents. Have fun! 😃

Drawing Challenge!

In class, the Bluebells have enjoyed doing step by step drawing challenges. We have created fruit baskets, houses, penguins and gingerbread men.

We thought since it is Digidabble week and we are focusing on using technologies that we could attempt a drawing session at home using YouTube.

The ladies in the Bluebells class tried it out this morning and these are our attempts below.

Can you guess who we drew?

Yes Mowgli from The Jungle Book!

Can you try it at home?

This video shows how to draw Mowgli (we paused and played throughout as it is fast!). The artist uses paints but we used felt tip pens.

All of the pupils love these sessions in class and find them very relaxing and calming. Some pupils like to watch an adult draw a line and they make a similar attempt on their own paper (so adults and/or siblings get involved). Whereas other pupils prefer the security of a light hand over hand approach.

Give it a try and we would love to see your attempts on the blog. Have fun! 😀

Digidabble Week!

Willowbank School is celebrating Digidabble Week.

In school we would have been using digital technologies as much as possible this week so I thought we could try that in our homework challenge.

📸📱💻

  1. Can you borrow a camera/phone/tablet and go on a hunt for all of the colours of the rainbow? 🌈 Take photos of what you find. This can be completed indoors, outdoors or both.

  2. Now this is a tricky one! Using your camera/phone/tablet, can you find items in your house 🏠 that begin with all of the letters in your name. Take photos of what you find. I have added what I found around my house when I tried it using the letters from my name…

Mug

Ice

Scissors

Socks

Grapes

Eggs

Mirror

Microwave

Earrings

Lamp

Lucas the cat

Have fun! Remember these are just ideas and optional but if you join in, feel free to post a comment or a photograph of your achievements 😀
