On Saturday 13th June, we attended the Primary National Burns Competition, held at Clydeview Academy in Gourock.
We had 4 entries in this competition, Daisy M and Stewart Y were representing Ayrshire in the P4/5 verse speaking competition, Lexi B was representing Ayrshire in the P4/5 singing competition and our school choir was representing Ayrshire in the choral competition.
Our choir entries were played in the main hall for everyone to see throughout the day. We were very excited to see ourselves on the big screen!
We are delighted to share that all of our children received wonderful scores and feedback from the judges and on top of that, our school choir were awarded 3rd place and Daisy M was awarded 1st place (out of the whole of Scotland!!!) for her rendition of Tam Glen by Robert Burns. Our young people were competing against other regions such as Dumfries and Galloway, Lanarkshire, Fife, Edinburgh, Renfrewshire, Scottish Borders, Glasgow and Grampian.
Our scores in the verse speaking competition, which Daisy and Stewart contributed to, led to Ayrshire winning the trophy for best overall verse speaking category on the day too.
What an amazing achievement for our young people and brilliant awards to bring home to Ayrshire!

Inter-house Football Tournament 13/6/26

This Friday, we will be hosting a whole school inter-house football tournament to celebrate the start of the World Cup.
It is anticipated this will be taking place in the playground, therefore it will be weather permitting.
Everyone can come dressed in their house colours.
A wee reminder of colours:
Bracken 💛
Heather ❤️
Pine 💚
Thistle 💙
No club football tops should be worn, unless they represent a country, for example, Scotland, Spain, Portugal etc.

New Cumnock to play in the EA Cup Final 17/6/26

We are delighted to share that our school football team have made it through to the EA Cup Final on Wednesday 17th June, where they will compete for the Football Fun Factory Cup.
This will take place at the Bonnyton Thistle Football Club in Kilmarnock where we have been given access to their Synergy Arena. The postcode for the venue is KA3 1BB. Parking will be on Harriet Rd and Townholm.
All players should come ready to play as there will not be access to the changing rooms.
There will be two finals running side by side and will kick off at 5.40pm. We will have access to the pitch from 5.20 pm. Please do not arrive prior to this. Games will be 20 mins each way, then (if required) 7.5 mins each way extra time and penalties (5 each then sudden death).
Parents, family and friends are most welcome to come and support the teams.  There will be a small gate to support East Ayrshire Primary Schools Football Association – Adults £3, Children/OAPs £1, toddlers/young children etc free. We will have a card reader available for those without cash. Players and coaches do not need to pay. 
Best of luck to our smashing team and thank you again to Gus for all his help and support in preparing our boys!

Mental Health Week Scotland

Mental Health Week Scotland was a huge success at New Cumnock Primary School. We were fortunate to have had visiting specialists come and deliver sessions throughout the week to support this:

Pauline Auld from PA Dance Academy delivered dance sessions; Sharon McQuillan from ShapeShift Fitness Studio delivered Yoga & Mediation sessions; Gina Scott from Bunnylove brought her petting zoo; and James McDonald (Paddy), East Ayrshire’s Countryside Development Officer delivered learning activities in the Wildlife Garden, as well as land art and river dipping.

As well as this, the children took part in food preparation activities, nature walks to Knockshinnoch Lagoons, Art activities, class games, kindness activities, a movie session and a picnic in the playground afternoon.

During this time, the children have truly excelled, demonstrating a great understanding and engagement with the themes and activities presented. They enthusiastically participated in a variety of activities designed to support good mental health, showing a remarkable ability to connect with and benefit from each experience. Their proactive approach to learning strategies for self-help was particularly impressive, as they not only absorbed the information but also applied it in meaningful ways. The children’s ability to reflect on their mental well-being and that of their peers was evident, as they shared insights and supported each another throughout the week. Their exceeding expectations in this area is a testament to their maturity, empathy, and commitment to personal growth. We are incredibly proud of the children’s achievements during Mental Health Week Scotland and look forward to seeing them continue to thrive in all aspects of their learning journey.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped support or deliver these wonderful experiences for the children: parent helpers, visiting specialists and the hard work and dedication of all the school staff who continually strive to give our children a diverse variety of enriching learning experiences.

To celebrate the end of term almost here, this Friday 12th June, we will be hosting a whole school FAB Friday Get Together, where we will be recognising the Wider Achievements of our pupils .

We want to hear about your child’s successes! Please bring in your certificates, medals or stories about your achievements from this past term.

To help with the programming of the morning, please complete the form below by Thursday 11th June to let us know what your child wishes to celebrate. We will use the names gathered on the Form to create the running order.
