SLC 1 Santa’s Cove Trip

Yesterday we had a fantastic time at Santa’s Cove in Braehead.  We enjoyed making reindeer food, making a Christmas decoration, going on a sleigh ride and playing on the snow bouncy slide.  We all really enjoyed our day and had a magical time meeting Santa and all his Elves.

P6 – Healthy Teeth Experiment – The Final Results (4 weeks)

Lucas and Rozalyn have had their teeth submerged in fizzy juice for 4 weeks now (luckily they were baby teeth that had fallen out and not the adult ones that they still have in their mouth!). Lucas had his tooth in Coca-Cola and Rozalyn had hers in Diet Coke.

Both of the teeth have rotted badly, feel very crumbly and have a bad smell to them. The teeth are now black and look very ugly…they also can’t do their job properly because they are so weak.

As a class we have made a promise to ourselves to try and drink less fizzy juice (even diet stuff!) and drink more water. We want to have lovely shiny and white teeth until we are old!! We hope you follow in our footsteps and also try to cut down!

P7 – Alcohol and Liver Experiment – The final Results!

Our cuts of liver have now been submerged in alcohol for two weeks and it is safe to say that they are all badly damaged. The liver has all changed in shape, texture, colour and smell (and trust us they do not smell good!).

The liver that was damaged the most was the one that was soaked in Blue Wicked (an alcopop). The liver has fully decomposed and we can no longer weigh it or take its measurements – could you imagine if this was inside your body?!

The cut of liver that was drenched in lager had the foulest smell of them all – it was putrid.

This experiment has highlighted the dangers of alcohol abuse and the results have seriously shocked us. We are going to really try and make positive choices in our future – we hope you do too!

RRS Clarks Shoe Appeal

As part of our commitment to become a Rights Respecting School this term we decided to take part in the Clarks Shoe Appeal.

In May 2017, RRSA and Clarks began a partnership to support education programmes for children around the world through an initiative called ShoeShare.

ShoeShare gathers old or unwanted shoes to raise money for Unicef to help all children, no matter where they are or what is happening around them, to access their right to education (Article 28).

Unicef and Clarks have worked in partnership to keep children safe since 2008 following on from a Blue Peter partnership. In that time, Clarks have contributed to transforming children’s lives through ShoeShare, gathering old or unwanted shoes at collection points in more than 500 Clarks stores across the UK.

To date, the partnership has raised an incredible £1 million, helping children access education.

ShoeShare is a campaign in partnership with Unicef and Clarks. The campaign collects old or unwanted shoes, which are sent for re-use. For every tonne of shoes collected, a donation is made to Unicef which goes towards education programmes around the world.

More than 59 million children of primary school age are still not in education. This is just under the population of the UK. Clarks are helping Unicef to provide basic resources such as pens and pencils so that children have the right tools to learn, and also support training teachers and work with governments to ensure the quality and standard of education remains high and children are leaving school able to read and write.

The aim of ShoeShare is to reach even more children and improve their access to an education.

AT BARSHARE WE MANAGED TO COLLECT AND DONATE A TOTAL OF 144 PAIRS OF SHOES!!

Thank you to all involved!
