Primary 4

Primary 4 Term 2 – Overview for Website.

Literacy

Reading – this term we are going to be concentrating on quality reading on Bug Club. Pupils will use Bug Club in school and should try to get on at home once or twice a week as well. We will still be doing reading in class with linked tasks.

Writing – this term we are focusing on more functional writing. The children will be writing personal accounts and recounts. Pupils will learn how to take notes and use these for writing up their own research. They will write up their science experiments and learn how to annotate a diagram.

Spelling – this term the focus is still on Key Words, but Topic Words will be added to their Spelling Homework too.  All P4 children have been sent home Key Word booklets to support them to practise at home.  These are also the words that we will be learning to spell in class.

Numeracy and Mathematics

During this term, we are focusing on multiplication and subtraction using concrete materials. Pupils  will cover a range of calculations and learn new strategies on how to complete these calculations. We will have the opportunity to share our own strategies and discuss these with the class.

In Outer Maths, we are learning about Information Handling. Pupils will have the opportunity to gather information and use tally marks, tally charts and frequency tables. We will learn how to read information and set questions.

Health and Wellbeing

PE – In Physical Education we are focusing on fitness.  We will also be doing gymnastics and concentrating on balance, twisting and turning. Nearer Christmas we will learn some social dances for our party.

During our health and wellbeing sessions we are going to focus on ‘relationships’.  This will support us and help us deal with issues which arise every day. We are also completing our SHANARRI booklets in health and wellbeing. This looks at aspects of how we can be: Safe, Healthy, Active, Nurtured, Achieving, Respected, Responsible and Included.

Interdisciplinary Learning

This term we will be looking at The Weather in IDL. We’ll find why we have so many different weathers and what could cause these. We will collect data, make a rain gauge and collect information on this about rainfall. We will conduct experiments and do plenty of research in order to select relevant material.

Expressive Arts Primary 4 have been lucky enough to continue their music tuition with Mrs Hill.  During this class, they will focus on musical terms, rhythms and beats.
