Primary 3 – Science Project

Primary 3 recently had a 2 week home/school science project.  Their challenge was to find out about an aspect of Earth and Beyond that most interested them and to prepare a presentation to teach others in the class about it.  We had a wonderful range of models, posters, books, pictures and even a  constellation word search for the class to complete!  A HUGE thank you to all the adults who supported the children to do this.

Primary 3 – Dark Sky Park

On Monday 10th December, Primary 3 had a very special experience as we visited the Dark Sky Park in the Galloway Forest.  This was an opportunity for us to star gaze, look through the largest telescope in Scotland, enjoy the activity room and go in the brand new planetarium.  When we were in the planetarium we got to view constellations, travel through space, experience what it’s like when a star dies and watch a rocket launch.  One of the highlights of our visit was getting to touch a real piece of the moon.  Wow!

P3 – Bread Making Session

Today Primary 3 enjoyed a wonderful bread making session.  This was delivered by Sara who works for RHET – the Royal Highland Education Trust.  We split into two groups and she taught us how to make our own brown and white rolls.  We learned how to make flour by using a special machine, how to make dough, how to make the dough rise and the different ingredients you need to make bread.  We are looking forward to taking our 2 rolls home and sharing them with our families tonight.

P3 – Soup Making

Today, Primary 3 had a special visit from Mrs Houston.  She helped us to prepare and cook our own vegetable soup.  We learned how to peel, chop, cube and grate vegetables so that they could be included in our soup.  We also enjoyed a tour of the school kitchen and learned more from Mrs Houston during a question and answer session.  We are looking forward to taking our soup home and sharing it with our families.  This learning links to our class learning of food and farming and is going to link to our writing as we will now write our own vegetable soup recipes.  If you’re not sure how to make soup, you know who to ask!

P3 – Dumfries House – Food and Farming

Primary 3 had a fantastic excursion to the Dumfries House farm.  We enjoyed a farm tour where we learned about each animal, fed the chickens and ducks and even got to stroke a pig!  We also learned how to use ingredients to make scones.  We had to cut chives from the garden and used these in our savory scones.  We made our own butter by taking it in turns to shake full cream as fast as we could for at least 10 minutes.  This was a very worthwhile learning experience which we all enjoyed.
