School News 

A newsletter with diary dates for the Term will be sent home next week.

 

Modern Languages Survey.

Families will receive a text which has a link to a one question survey about the introduction of another Modern Language for P5-7 pupils during next session. We welcome your family’s thoughts on what language you think would be of most interest. Please respond by Friday 30th April.

 

Class News  

Primary 1 
Oona – “The classroom is different – we have a little café.” 

Dorota – “There’s fruit.” 

Evie – “France – French Café.” 

Nell – “We have pots of flowers.” 

Lily – “Called Daffodils.” 

Floyd – “We got a new boy called Jack. Welcome Jack.” 

Rory – ” We won Monster Points.” 

Lily – “The tables have moved into a different place.” 

Zoe – “We’ve been learning the french numbers.” 

Oona – “We’ve got money in the café because we’re learning about all the different coins.” 

We have started a new topic – ‘Me and My World ‘ 

Zoe – “keeping our world safe”  

We’re thinking about recycling. 

 

Primary 1/2 

We have loved starting our Zoo topic. This week we have focused on Polar Animals. We have learned facts about polar bears and penguins, made dens for animals and took part in The Blubber Experiment.
Alex – “The fat keeps the polar bear warm”.
Summer –”My other hand is so cold!”.
Kyle – “The polar bear would want to have a warm bath!”  

Primary 2 

In number we have been learning to round up and down to the nearest 10.  

In Language we have been revising capital letters and full stops. 

In Music we have been using drum sticks to make patterns. 

Eli – “I liked coming back to school to play with my friends”. 

Imogen – “I like doing my Maths at school”. 

Milly – “I like to work hard at my handwriting” and Noah liked doing P.E. this week.    

 

Primary 2/3   

We have started working on telling the time.
Fern – “I can do half past and quarter past”.
Blaine – “We are learning to read quarter to”.

We made posters about our holidays with exciting titles.
Leigha – The Deep Water,  Zak K – Baking Disaster, Jazmine – Playtime in the Park.
We have started planning a circus event for our class.  


Primary 3/4
  

P3/4 has had a great first week back. In Maths we have been learning about patterns and sequences.
We have been focussing on making our handwriting neat and learning new joins. We have also been trying new activities in our active spelling lessons.
In ICT we have been learning to use Powerpoint and started creating our own ones.

Freya, Elle and Jessie have moved up a level in gymnastics. Shea has learned how to do a backflip! Lhlyaijana has moved up stage in swimming.
Well done to them all! Maxi and Alexander have been tent building at cubs. 

 

Primary 4 

Welcome back P4. During the holiday P4 took part in lots of super holiday home learning. They shared photographs and shared their news. We have been creating menus in Maths, working out totals and change. We took our spelling outdoors and used blocks, beanbags and chalk to learn new words in the sunshine. Well done to all our talent show performers, Milly, Skye, Ruby, Reece and Erin! 

 

Primary 4/5 

P4/5 have been revising their times table facts this week. This will be ongoing throughout the term.  We have started our new topic – Transport and are looking forward to learning more.
Duncan “I would like to learn about when transport was first invented”.
Jessica “How much fuel does an aeroplane use?”
Oscar “Why do we need exhaust pipes?”

 

Primary 5 

This week we have been learning about Mary Queen of Scot as our new topic. Did you know she became Queen at six days old?
At the start of the week we were doing RME with Miss Gainford, we did some drama.   

 

Primary 6 

This week In P6, we started our new topic which is Europe and Brexit and we were put into groups which are France, Spain, Germany, Poland & Bulgaria. We started to look at Europe and other continents on the map.
Also, on Wednesday we looked at different religions from each country. We have started to look back at division in maths.

Primary 6/7 

In PE we had our first of three Tag Rugby sessions with Stewartry Coach, John Muir. With Mrs. Hart we have been preparing for our Job Fair which we will be holding on Wednesday. We are finishing our World War 2 topic and have been learning about VE and VJ days. 

 

Primary 7 

P7 pupils have had a busy first week back this term.
” In maths we have been doing tricky division sums” – Nicole.
“I enjoyed the tag Rugby games with John on Tuesday” – Kayla.
“It was really fun researching and making my Tunisia leaflet” – Sophie. We have been practising very hard at lunchtimes for the talent show” – Abbie.
“We have been busy phoning and writing questions for next week’s job fair”. – Carla.
“In Art, with Mrs. Carlyle, we were sketching using different shades” – Rhianna. 

 

Community News

 

One of our P7 pupils, Adam Malcolm, is working hard to raise money to support a Scout visit to Kenya this summer. Adam, along with other Scouts, will be undertaking a wellbeing project by helping to create simple but effective toilet facilities for people to use.

One of the fundraising activities is a Photo Quiz of Castle Douglas which may be of interest to families to enjoy as they walk round the town. Entry forms are available from the School – priced £1 and there are prizes of £20 and £10.

Please do let the school know if you would a like form(s).

Reminders

P1 – We are collecting junk modelling materials and plastic bottle lids – please send in if you can.  Remember CAPER books on a Monday.

P2/3 Please bring P.E. kit on Monday.

P3/4 Please remember to bring PE kits in for Tuesday.

P4 PE kits needed on Wednesdays and Fridays. Our term 4 topic is ‘Our Amazing Bodies’. We are looking for Golden Time helpers on Friday afternoons. Letters in school bags with more information!
P4/5 Please remember P.E. kits for Tuesday & Wednesday. We will be going outside for P.E. when it is dry so please bring appropriate clothing and footwear.
Primary 5 We are going on a 5mile hill walk on Tuesday. Please bring appropriate clothing for day, packed lunch and a drink. Coats, waterproof trousers, boots and rucksacks can all be loaned from Outdoor Education Department.
P6/7 P.E. kit – all week.

Thursday football – girls group.
