Class News

Primary 1

We loved doing Active Maths in the gym hall this week. We worked in groups to identify different stories to 5. We used 5 bean bags and split them between 2 hoops. We wrote all the different sums on the whiteboards.

We have been thinking about all the weathers we experience in Scotland. We matched weathers to the different seasons. In groups, we created a Scottish person wearing an outfit suitable for a particular season. We had to be creative, cooperative and use good communication skills. Our people look fantastic!

Primary 1/2

We have been hard at work practising our Scots poem and making our poetry artwork.

We have also been estimating and measuring length and weight in Maths. We have been using a variety of objects to do this and using the scales has been really interesting.

Primary 2

We have been working very hard to learn our Scottish poem, Nessie. We have learned lots of things about Scotland and here are some of our thoughts
Georgie – “We learned the River Tay is very long”.
Alex – ” We learned that Robert Burns lived a long long time ago and he wrote poems”.
Struan – ” We learned that Nessie came from Loch Ness”.
Milly – “We learned that the capital city of Scotland is Edinburgh”.
Noah – ” We learned the highest mountain is Ben Nevis”.
Lewis – ” We learned that porridge, haggis, red squirrels, shortbread, bagpipes and tartan come from Scotland.

Primary 2/3

We learned some Scottish dance moves and then worked in a group to make up our own dances.
Fern said,” It was hard to keep up”.
Emma said, “It was fun”.
Rhuben said, “It was tricky” and Emily-Rose said, “We worked well as a group getting in to place on time”.

We made pictures to go with our Scottish poem. We labelled a map of Struay using a key.
In ICT we have been researching the Isle of Coll. Fern said, “I found out that there were less people on Coll than in our school”.

 

Primary 3

This week in Maths we are still working on our addition using ‘Chimney Sums’. We are getting much more confident now!

We are also really enjoying doing our reading activities.

McKenzie & Ben W – “I like going to the listening centre.”

Isla McF – “It’s fun getting a turn at different activities.”

We finished our pictures for the poetry competition and put these in a circus tent display. They look great!

Primary 3/4

This week P3 have been learning their ten times table and P4 learning the 6 times table.
We have also been learning the male, female and young names for lots of different farm animals.

Katie learned that a female sheep is called a ewe.

Lhlyaijana learned that a male horse was called a stallion.

We have been practising our Scottish dancing with P1/2. Lily’s favourite dance is the Grand Auld Duke of York.

Hugo has been moved up to Cubs and Katie got a certificate at Gymnastics for learning her backwalk. Jesse-Leigh learned to do a one handed cartwheel.

 

Primary 4

We enjoyed Highland dancing and demonstrating moves such as the positions of the feet and hands.  We are working towards creating a short routine.  Skye H is a talented dancer and led our masterclass.  She told us about her experience, modelled her kilt, socks and jacket then performed the Highland Fling and the Sword Dance.

Primary 4/5

Lewis loved making his project. Oscar enjoyed practising his poem ‘A Dug A Dug’

In Maths we have been gathering data from our chocolate tasting.

Charlotte can now do a drop back at Gymnastics.

 

Primary 5

We said our poem in front of the class.
We have been doing Accelerated Reading.  The class have been learning about Robert Burns.
Miss Gainford was in class for Drama and RME.  We have also been doing the second part of our INCA tests.

 

Primary 5/6

We have been sketching Robert Burns portraits in the style of the famous artist Andy Warhol. We learned all about different sketching pencils and how we could use them to shade our sketches.

In maths we have been measuring objects and have started to learn about budgeting.

We have also helped to choose new books for our library.

Primary 6

“I have been learning about orbit times and the atmosphere of the major planets”. – Daniel G

“In PE, I am learning how to work on and improve my pace when I run.” – Ollie

“I have been converting fractions, decimals and percentages.” – Mia

“We have been looking at tenths, hundredths and thousandths.” – Isla A

“We have been practising for the Galloway Music Festival.” – Archie

This week we also began looking at and setting ourselves SMART targets.

Primary 6/7

We have been practising our Scots poems and congratulations to Kyra, Fraser, Craig, Katie, Kelly, Sophie and Lucy who were voted into the judging round on Friday. Well done to Ryan who made the P6 finals.

We have looked at the Battle of Britain and rationing as part of our World War 2 topic. We have been creating propoganda posters.  In Maths we have been calculating durations of time.  Keep practising!

Primary 7

In Mental Maths we have been working on 2 digits x 2 digits. We have also been finding a fraction of a quantity in Maths too.

In topic work this week we have looked at populations, comparing city and village life, languages and Indian elephants.

We also had our Burns poetry competition this week. The pupils did a super job learning To A Louse and creating art work to go with it.

 

Reminders for Next Week

P1– Reminder that Monday is Storytime with parents at 2.30pm and that Wednesday is a Global Play Day.

P1/2 – Tuesday – Scottish Showcase 9am – 10:30am 1 visitor per child. Any further RSVP’s please hand in on Monday.

P2-Wednesday – Global Play Day, if anyone has any junk modelling materials please hand in before Wednesday. Thank you!

P3 – Play Day on Wednesday. junk modelling materials welcome.  PE is on a Monday and Tuesday.  Please bring appropriate kits.  Homework folders should be brought to school every day.

P3/4 – Scottish Showcase is on Tuesday 6th February we would love to see you there. If you have any materials for junk modelling it would be much appreciated.

P4 – Global School Fun Day on Wednesday 7th February.  If you wish to please bring in things to play with.  Please mark your child’s name on all items.

P5/6 Any junk modelling materials would be appreciated for our play day on Wednesday

P6 – Global Play Day is on Wednesday. P6 Bake Sale is on Friday – all cake donations welcome.

P6/7 – PE Kit Tuesday. After school football on Thursday – Boys
