This Week’s News

P1a has been busy this week with our HOTS activity. We’ve been predicting what would happen next for Harry and his bucketful of dinosaurs and had fun writing our own ending to the story. The children have been learning to sort dinosaurs using their own criteria and in groups they created imaginary dinosaurs and presented their ideas to the rest of the class.
Lexi said, ” I liked making my 2D shape dinosaur-I used circles”. Becky said ” I liked the dice take away game”.
Murray told everyone how he liked reading his book this week. He said ” It was about the cat, Wilma and Dad getting stuck in the tree.”

P1b had some HUGE excitement this week when they spotted dinosaur footprints in their classroom! The children all wrote lovely stories about it.
Afterwards.Adam said,” I enjoyed learning facts about dinosaurs and Leah said, ” Some dinosaurs are carnivores and some are herbivores”. The children also had fun this week making up a new gymnastics routine.

P2a have been learning all about Sport Relief and the things they can all do to help to raise money. They have enjoyed planning lots of activities for everyone to enjoy on Friday 18th March. Ruby said, “I liked seeing how Champa lived”.

The P2b class have been practising for their joint assembly with P2a and have been busy learning their words at home too. They have had fun making posters about Sports Relief Day and invitations to parents for their assembly.

In P3 the children have been learning all about time and the 10 times table. They have had fun making magnetic games and using different sticks in gym. The book they are reading at present is called The Iron Man.

P4 were visited again by Mr.Cathro and they all made Viking treasure. The children have also showed off their talents by designing their own Viking shields which they plan to use on their forthcoming hillwalk. The class have also enjoyed making patterns outside this week.

P4/5 have been showing off their musical skills this week by writing their own song and performing this to the P3/4 class. They played musical instruments and Mrs.Milligan filmed the performance. The class also very much enjoyed their visit from Pitch, Pulse and Music who brought a violin and cello with them on Thursday. Isla commented ” When Pitch, Pulse & Music visited us I learned that it is the strings vibrating that make the sound”. Mia said, ” I enjoyed making roses, like Charles Rennie MacIntosh this week. Erin commented that she is enjoying the new class novel, Sky Hawk by Gill Lewis.

The P5/6 class have been preparing for their ‘Artic Café’ and working hard to make sure everything goes to plan. They have even been sending emails to Polar Explorers! The class has also been learning lots about sequences, patterns and time. Madison M said, ” We have been writing business plans and budgets”. Stephanie said, “We are very excited to hear the polar explorers’ replies and their answers to our questions”. Brianna said the class has been busy advertising and promoting their Artic Café.

P6 are proud to say that Eva took part in The Galloway Music Festival at Penninghame Primary and won the violin solo beginners class.

It’s been a Hip Hop theme in P6/7 this week as the class worked hard at recording and assessing their own Hip Hop dance routine. Charlie and Kira both said, “It was real fun but we always trip up when doing the windmill dance move”.  The children have also worked together to design volcanoes and have been working hard on fractions and finding equivalent fractions.

P7 pupils took part in the Rotary Primary Quiz on Wednesday night and after a hard fought 8 rounds they were crowned 1st equal and  then won on the tie break questions. Well done to all who took part!

 

Reminders for Next Week

School Open Evening on Monday 14th March 5.30pm – 7.15 pm

Remember Sports Relief day on Friday 18th March – pupils and staff are very welcome to come dressed in sports outfits (PE kit is fine) and a voluntary donation will be collected by P2.

Artic Café for Nursery and P1 to P3/4 classes- Tuesday 15th March

Arctic Cafe  for pupils in P4- P7 – Wednesday16th March ??

Gymnastics display by the school gymnastics club on Thursday at 3.45pm. Parents of the group members are invited to attend.

P1a ask that you  please RSVP as soon as possible to the invitation to their planned dinosaur activity afternoon which is on Tuesday 22nd March at 1.30pm.

P1b have their Dinosaur Egg Hunt on Wednesday 23rd March. Also a reminder that trip letters are due back by Tues 22nd please.

P2a & P2b would like to remind their parents that they are all welcome at the joint class assembly on Friday 18th March at 9.15am. Please remind the children to come to school in sporty clothes – warm ones suitable for outside play.

P4 have two trips next week which they are all excited about. On Wednesday they are going to Castle Douglas High School with Mr.Cathro and then on Friday they are going on their Viking hill walk. Please remember that’s its old, warm clothing on Friday that may get muddy and also to bring a packed lunch.

P5/6 would like to remind parents that their Artic Café will be open to parents during the school open evening on Monday 14th. (Pupils have their own allocated time slot at school on Tuesday and Wednesday)
